Need Help With Stereo

Hey guys how was your christmas? Also i got a brand new Alpine Head Unit to replace my stock radio. And me being a dumbass i didn't check to see if the harness was the right one untill i tried to put the radio in. Now is there anybody who makes a harness for the fb's? Or do I have to have to custom make one. And what about the two amps in the back of the car, do those have to be unpluged from the speakers or just at the dash?

Thanks for any help and have a great new years

Well, myself and my buddy have a couple times now just cut/crimped/spliced ourselves in, its not too hard, though I really didn't do a helluvalot of it, so I can't help too much with it.

And if you can't figure out what wire goes to what speaker, you can either trace it and see what the colour of the wire is at the speaker, or you can just plug it in, run the deck for a second and see where the sound comes from.

You will have a hella time tryin to find a plug and play harness for this old a vehicle. There is a company that does make em, when im into work ill check on what it was again.

Best bet is just to figure out what colors on the back of the alpine (pretty self explanatory and there will be a diagram with colors in the manual) and use the wiring diagram for the 7 and splice in as chaos has stated. Will be quicker and probably easier than trying to find the harness

if you are installing aftermarket speakers as well i recommend running new wires as the old ones are very small and you will get better sound and less chance of melting/failing wires out of new ones

cheers

sorry double post didnt read all of it

not overly familiar with the stock deck as i never had one in my 7...

the alpine deck will have amp pre outs on it that would go to the amp. If the stock deck has those same pre outs (look like RCA cables white and red usually) you can unplug them from deck into new deck.

If NOT, then there are a series of options.

1. Run new wires to the speakers direct from deck. Alpine decks will output same RMS wattage that the 22yr old amp does, likely more than in fact. Which may result in blowing the speaks or distortion at high volumes (past 17 on alpine)

2. Get new amps and speakers. More money... but run new pre amp out and power to the amp, then wires to the speakers.

Also, as im sure you are aware you are going to need a double DIN dash kit. To go from the double din stock radio down to the single DIN that the alpine deck is. This kit may be hard to come by and you may need to fab one up. Not hard just take the measurments. To see if a kit is available your local car electronics store may know..but maybe not since its quite old

Have fun

Jess
