Need help with a relay

I need some help with what i think is the fuel pump relay. I know the relay is chattering and i know that is typically the signs of a dying relay. The reason i think it is the fuel pump relays is because the car wont run without it. It will start but only runs for about 5-10 seconds and no throttle response. The part number is the factory part number FA55-67-740 and i looked it up on the parts book for my 85-s model. According to the book its in section 6600-A and is in location 2-E9. I got that from the parts book but i have no idea what the hell it means. Also i was wondering if anyone could tell me what this is, where i can find it on my 83 parts car, because i looked in the same place up next to the steering column and its not there, and anything else you can tell me about this. If you have an extra one and can send it to me for cheap i would be willing to buy one. I don't want to have to go to a dealer and get raped for this im sure 5.00 part. Any help would be greatly appreciated and i know you guys here are a vast ammount of knowledge. Please get back to me as soon as possible too, its getting to be springtime here in Pittsburgh and i want to drive my rex!

You may not find one in your parts car because many owners remove them. If you run a jumper wire in the plug from either of the Black/white wires to the Blue/white wire the fuel pump will run anytime the key is on.

Well i am reluctant to do that because from what i understand the relay is a safety measure that cuts out a problem if there is one. Now i know it could be a bad relay, but i don't want to keep messing other things up by taking the safety out. From what i have found on my parts car, it doesn't seem like its missing, it just looks like its not even there, like the wires it would plug in to or anything. Thanks for the advice on the jumper, i will use that if i need a quick temporary fix.

Parts store.... nope, i have found the relay that is the problem. That was the easy thing. Then i found the factory part number. I just can't find a replacement. I am working on another avenue to get one, but it is proving difficult. Thanks for the help.

and i did find a replacement, i just don't want to spend the $70 the dealer is trying to rob me from, or the $35 i found online.

buy a regular fog lights relay (bosch or whatever), wires and female/male solderless terminals, your wiring diagram and of course, a 12pack of cold heine

On top of my head, the stock wiring has two identical wires. These wires will go to the fog light relay's terminal # 30 and 85.

you have to identify the fuel pump wires. the fuel pump's positive wire will go to #87 or 87A.

The remaining wire is ground so this go to #86. Also, the fog lights relay must be grounded so from #86, run another wire and ground it to the chassis. At the same time, add a toggle switch so you can have a fuel pump kill switch.

That is a good point. The relay shuts off the fuel pump when the engine stops running. If the car were in an accident and a fuel line was broken, when the engine died the fuel pump would be shut off.

FWIW I have 3 parts cars and 4 running 1st gen RX-7s. I just checked all of them for a FP relay. Only one still has the relay and that one doesn't work correctly.

Here is the wiring diagram for the fuel pump circuit.
