Need help, Push Button light switch
Ok, so i installed the blue indigo gauge lights... i know none of you guys like them, but to each his own.
Anyways everything works but the on/off switch is a flimsy piece of material . I was wondering how i could set it up so that i can operate it with a button, preferrably a push button that i could mount where the cruise control thing goes.
My car does not have cruise control so their is an emtpy gap in its place.
I basically need to know how i get a push button to operate the system.
I was looking at maybe some buttons like this.... but i just need general idea of like flow of electricity . http://www.ittcannon.com/products/products.asp?pid=1020
The wire running from the gauges to the on off switch has 2 prongs coming out. But all these buttons have like multiple openings? i know how to solder so connecting is no prob. Thanks!

To make it easier lets say i want button #2. It has 2 prongs coming out but so does the wire i would need to connect it to? do i just solder with extra wire?

Uhmm... maybe this is more complicated than i think it is, but take off the switch that is there, and solder in the new switch?
...if you are confused by the back of the switch, bust out a multimeter, and find out which prongs give you continuity....

Cruise control and other buttons i have
I pulled a cruise control switch off an 85 i think. Also pulled 3 switches that were located just in front of the middle arm rest/ compartment. I think 1 i a speaker fader and the other 2 were like for power windows or somthing.
Problem is the cruise control has 4 wires coming out and each switch on the other cluster has 4 wires coming out?
Do i just randomly check each connection, wont this short out my gauges if im wrong?
In case it matters, the cruise ocntorl has 1 black 1 red and 2 brown wires.
The cluster has 2 blacks 1 red 1 green each.
Problem is the cruise control has 4 wires coming out and each switch on the other cluster has 4 wires coming out?

Bust out a multimeter, with the switch in the ON position, (atleast) a pair of terminals will have continuity, when the switch is off, those terminals will NOT have continuity... solder to those...

MULTImeter checks more than one thing.... use it to check continuity/resistance (~0 resistance = Continuity... its the omega on the dial in most cases... )

It might be even simpler to sit down and read the wiring diagram in the online FSM. That's one reason I don't start many threads, I like to read and research my problems and figure them out myself. Then I get get to be a smart *** and answer everybody elses questions.
