Question Need HELP Please

ok, first off i am new at the rx7 experience. I bought a 1984 GSL about 2 years ago. I have replaced many parts. I replaced the clutch abouta year ago myself.(bad move since im not a great mechanic on rx7s yet) It took me about a year(personal issues in life delayed the process) to get it down. WHen i was down i had some electrical problems. So i took the car to an import mechanic. He fixed the electrical problems but ran into some others. He bleed the clutch and adjusted the clutch. He says when he starts it and tries to put the car in gear it scretches. I have never heard of a clutch scretching but it does. I replaced the master clutch cyclinder and slave cyclinder as well. Also it shifts into gears fine when the car is off. Only when the car is on does it show problems. Any suggestions? PLease help because i want to get this car going so i can upgrade many parts.

Thanks for the help...

Does it slide into gear properly when you're stopped but the car's running? Even with the screech, does it go into gear?

If not then your clutch isn't disengaging. If it does go into gear the only thing I could think would be the syncros or the throwout bearing. Yeah the more I think about it I bet you have a bad throwout bearing. If the screech occurs as you push the clutch but before you move the stick then likely throwout bearing. If the screeching (not grinding) is while you put it into gear moving the stick then I'm thinking syncros.

I don't think it would be possible to get the clutch actually installed if it were off center enough that it could be slipping on the flywheel. You didn't grind the clutch or anything funky when you put it in eh?

no i didnt grind the clutch or anything like that. It has trouble getting into gears thats when the noise starts. THe throwoutbearing is brand new as well. TGHe flywheel was in great shape when i examined it when i replaced the clutch. Any other ideas?

Trouble getting into gears even when the car's not moving? And it definately doesn't make the sound until you move the stick?

Hmmm... So yeah, possibly syncros starting to go (they would make the sound and prevent the gears from actually grinding) and in conjunction with that a clutch that will not fully disengage.

How does it feel in terms of providing counter-pressure when you push the clutch? Does it spring back nicely as you let the clutch back out? I agree with wacky - may have to readjust the clutch and also check for leaks and possibly re-bleed the system.

i already adjusted the push rod. The synros, those are in the transmission right? And how exactly do i replace them bc that is the last thing i can think of. It does spring back correctly...the pedal that is.

Yeah they are in the tranny. I'm not sure exactly how they work, but they're the only moving until you let the clutch back out and in gear. Only thing I can think of.

And it actually won't go into gear with the engine running right? Gotta be the syncros.

I've never actually had my RX tranny opened; when my last one started to die I pulled my parts car one and swapped.
