Need Help - Fuel Pressure Q on Holley Carb

Would a pump pushing too much psi. have an effect on idle RPM? Say a pump pushin 7 psi on a carb recomended for 4-6 psi would that make it difficult to bring the idle RPMs down to recommended?

It is possible. If the pressure is too high it will flood the engine. Theoretically, if it wasn't flooding it so much to stall it, it could raise the idle.
A quick check: While the car is idling, look down the carb and see if you see fuel trickling in to the carb. If so, it probably is overflowing the bowls. If it is, then the sure fire way to find out is to check the sight glass windows. There is one on the front and the back of the carb. The fuel should be halfway up the glass, no more. The problem is, unless you have rebuilt your carb lately, the glass may be too dirty to see through. If so, I would suggest removing the carb and cleaning the glass so that you can see. It is the only way to really set the floats accurately.

Ah, just wipe the site windows off with a rag and a little window cleaner and you should be fine. A small dental mirror and a good flashlight really help. What is your current carb and fuel pump setup?

Actually there are no sight windows on this carb. Its a Holley 465 and Carter pump. Thanks

Fuel pressure is important in any carbed application. I use a Fuel Pressure Regulator on mine because the pump puts out 6psi and the carb needs to see 2.5-3.5psi. If your carb specifically says it's rated for 4-6psi, then I wouldn't push 7 through it.

But then again, I'm not a holley guy so I don't know.
