Need Help..

Ok this is the situation, i pulled out the plugs last nite, had them cleaned, put them back in this morning.Same deal, cranking but no start. I had to get the car towed since i had no plates on it and could no longer park it there. I towed it to my friend's garage. I did the atf trick, still didnt work. Then they sprayed some ether in the carb and it started but didnt stay on. We checked the fuel lines and there was no fuel coming, could it be the fuel pump or the fuel pump fuse?

any help is appreciated...

Check all fuses under the dash first. If those are all good, remove the driver side storage bin, there's a connector for the fuel pump there. Check for 12 when cranking the engine. If 12 is there, likely bad pump, might check all wiring going to the pump near the gas tank.

if you removed the air cleaner, make sure you put all the vacuum hoses back on, also see if any are cracked,, check the large hose on passenger/rear side of carb too,,,good luck,,,,

By 12 I mean 12 volts.

If the fuel pump is running, the olny thing between it and the carb is the fuel filter. See if gas comes from the hose from the filter. Be careful!

$1000 too much for what?

disregard the $1000 statement..

um, there is no gas coming to the carb..i took out the line, started the car with ether( i know it's bad but the mechanic told me it's ok, but now i know better) and there was no gas in the lines when i pushed the accelerator.

I agree, check the power wires to the pump...

It's in the driver's side storage bin behind your seat...

Alternatively, remove the wires and try to wire the pump straight to the battery... Have someone under the car listen to the gas tank and hear the pump spin.

tisk, tisk, c mon guys they say the fuel pump is working so cmon no matter how dumb some mechanics are they should be able to determine wheather the fuel pump is working or not.

Carlitos,

1 - Turn on your igintion. Get under the car and listen for the fule pump, look for it even its right where everyone is saying behind your seat on the undercarrage.

2 - Touch it feel it, it should vibrate...if you feel very, very little vibration, the pump is bad.

3 - If its good then remove the fuel line from the carb have someone hold the line into a container or just feed the line into a simple 12oz soda can or water bottle.

Then get under the car and disconnect the fule line AFTER the fule pump. Blow into in with your mouth or a compressor. Make sure your lines are CLEAR.

4 - Make sure that the line from the gas tank to the fuel filter is clear smae process as #3 but you'd have to drop the tank.

5 - Check all fuel filters after the pump and before the carb if applicable.

6 - All else fails take a lighter to the lines so you can REALLY see whats clogging it.

Let me know.

Ryan

if you have a Haynes repair manual go to page 98, by the fuel pump there is a check and cut valve (mine was white colored) it can only feed fuel one way, may want to reverse the hoses if they were removed at any time, then turn on the key with the line that feeds to carb and see if gas is pumping at this point ,if gas is comming form the check valve then check the fuel filter and pull the line there and check for gas flow, then go from there to the carb, there are two fuel lines at carb one for gas and one for return gas, there is a check valve there also on the return line (its about the size of the line and metal),,,it too has to go on one way only,,,(take it off and clean it, may be clogged) and make sure its on the right direction to flow gas back,,,,good luck..(if you see rust at any point of these checks, then thats another story...
