need help:2-30amp 5 prong relays and 2 e-fans

can someone explain how to wire both fans with both relays, if i am not running a t-stat, i just want to run them from ignition, i want to open the ign switch and have them come-on..... or do i need to run them to a toggle switch???

theres a wiring diagram somewhere on this forum, take some time and really understand it so you know exactly how it works. i read through it about 20 times before i fully understood it. don't run a toggle switch, adds something else that could go wrong and possible cook ur engine (cause i know i would forget to hit it when i started the car). def use a t-stat. search for "e-fan install" or something and you'll find it. good luck.

I use a toggle with a relay. But I remember to turn it on in stop and go traffic. Actually, the 2 fans on all the time would be useless. They don't do a damn thing after 35 mph. It'd be better to have a temp switch, so that 1 fan cuts on at say, 190, and the second at 210. But as for your question. Find a wire that is hot only during ign on. Splice a wire onto that wire, and run that to 2 relays in series, then the final to a ground. Then hook up a power wire to each relay separately, put a fuse in for safety, say 20A. Then hook the other side up of each to a reliable ground. I wish I could draw a diagram, but I don't have the time. I think you might be able to figure it out tho.

Dude, AWESOME diagram! I've got a Fiero Fan on it's way as we speak. So, according to this, I don't need a thermostat? I can just use the temp sensor and A/C power connection for a Thermostat Controlled Fan???

Man, I'm totally lost on the whole Temp Sensor, A/C thing... All this diagram shows is how to be able to switch on a e-fan using the A/C switch in the car, right? This wouldn't be T-stat controlled system. I would simply have to by a T-stat switch if I want that wouldn't I?

That diagram shows both. One relay will operate with your temp sensor, only activating when engine is hot.

But you also need the fans to run when airconditioning is on, so that's what the second half is for. Nice diag's by the way!

That's cool. Never would have thought you could do it that way. So now, who has actually ran their e-fans this way? Will the temp sensor allow the fan to turn off and on regulating a certain temp range, or will it just turn the fan on after the water temp in the Rad starts rising and then just stay on until you shut the car off? I'm not sure how the Temp Sensor works electrically, seeing how it wasn't designed to work as a "switch" for something.

You can't just use the temp sensor on a 1st gen. You need a thermo switch.

I hope no one forgets that the oil cooler gets quite hot, VERY quickly. I would like that first fan to operate on a toggle, to get the oil cooler.

No! Don't do it! I tried to run my cooling fan manually on my '71 LeMans and it was a PITA! Spend the extra twenty bucks to get a thermostat that will control your fan for you, then you don't need to worry about it. It would only take one time sitting in the McDonald's drive through to take out your motor if you forgot to hit that switch.

Do it right, and it will kick on automatically when ever it needs to, and shut off when its not needed. I finally did this on my Pontiac and what a relief it was not to have to worry about that damn switch.

Thanks for clearing that up. Didn't sound like that would work, but wouldn't be ideal for us if it did!

Hey man, I got a 72 Lemans! Poor thing is just sitting there waiting for my loving hands to restore it. It's gotta wait though.....Rx-7 comes first!

Supposedly has a 400 in it so I'm excited about getting started on it this winter. Will probably blow the doors off my seven but the "fun level" will not be as high I assume.

So, couldn't one just use 1 relay and use the #86 going to the ACC? (or thermo switch)

....and the #85 going to a manual switch? The A/C switch would not be a bad idea.
