Need a good brand good starter
Hello, on my GS 1985 RX7 i need a starter. Problem is the one I first got was an Ultima and too small. Mechanic said
it was a "low punch" starter and it sure was. It didn't start 3 times one day and it was turning over. Got another one a, Remy,
online and it is defective, right size, but defective. Got a Carquest now but looks to be too large we'll see when
the mechanic gets to it. DOES ANYBODY KNOW A GOOD BRAND STARTER THAT IS THE RIGHT SIZE AND NOT DEFECTIVE?!!!

It can be hit or miss with reman units. Your best bet is to have the original starter rebuilt and upgraded. You can ask a round at the local autonlart stores or machine shops to see if anyone knows a reputable place in your area that rebuilds starter and alternators and such.
High Torque 2.0KW Starter (86-91 RX-7)
The FC NA starter will bolt right in to the 83-85 FB's. There's a thread talking about all the different combos that are possible. The banzai one is the option i'm looking at once I finally have a running car again. Fair warning, it sounds very different than the FB ones. More like a turbine whine while cranking.
Peejay gets the noise spot on between them here:

I went through the 'quality vs cost' decision with my starter years back. I wound up with a cheap duralast reman from Autozone with a lifetime warranty. It's been fine so far. I wanted to buy a better one but couldn't find one that made sense, so instead I took the lower quality part with a lifetime warranty. I just hope that if it ever dies on me I can get it started with some taps from a hammer or something to get me home
