first off how long has it been like that? thn check for vacuume leaks. if it just happened recently they do have a habbit of gaining the idle screw with vibrations. the idle screw is hard to see.it's right under the cable to the right a little. good luck.
It's been like that for since fri . afternoon. I started it to go to my 2nd job and used the choke and the rps neve droped below 2 grand. It seems like there id a spring missing or some thing. Should i have somuch slack at the peddle?
Just Sprayed 1 1/2 cans of carb cleaner on all the vac. hoses i could see with nothing as a result. also i adjusted the idle speed screw and it would go up over 2 grand but never below. Very frustrating!!!!! please4 help if you can.
I ran into the same problem last night coming home except I have a 13B and this little bugger managed to work it self down to my linkage and capture it in a bind and make my idle shoot up to 3k rpms and eventually to red line.
I don’t know what it is or if its on your 12A but its worth a shot...

Thanks guys ill check. anyone have any pics pointing this stuff out and would the choke still work cuz it does? but thanks ill check. I was also thinking something in the carb is stuck any guesses? and one last thing when i'm standind on the pas. side i can push down on this rod with a T on top of it, its spring loaded and clips on to some valve i guess. but that seems to bring the idle down any help or did i make it worse.
Rod with a T on top of it. If it's what I think it is, you have to move it up. Lemme find a pic.
Is it like a little rod passed through the big rod to make a T, and it's spring loaded?

ok, take air filter cover off. look down into carb and make sure that all the butterflies are closed tightly against carb. if so start car without using choke. with car running exercise the throttle open/closed. easiest way to do this is by pressing on the tab that rests against the dashpot (in picture above). did the butterflies close properly? if not, check for any obstructions in the carb linkages. try closing it by hand using the tab mentioned earlier. you may hear something hindering it somewhere. My car did this last week and all it needed was a little oil on the return springs.
