Need advise on aftermarket carb & intake

I just bought an '83 RX-7, the guy I bought it from said that he thought that buying a set-up from racing beat would probably fix the problem. He said when he unhooked one of the solenoids the car would idle but not run above 2500rpm very well. If he took a different solenoid off the car would run above 2500 but it wouldn't idle at all. Is there any way that I can fix the stock system or would it be a futile attempt. Would I be better off buying an aftermarket intake and carb or one or the other.

Almost time to park it for the winter anyway. Pull the carb off and send it to Rx7carl or Sterling. I hear they do great work, and its darned cheap too!

How do I fix the stock set-up. How much does it cost to have the carb redone.

First off, sounds like you dont have any emissions testing correct? Then rip all that junk out per the tutorial (that should solve your problem) and gut the cats. Or better yet, get a RB exhaust. First step in making power with these cars.

Thanks for the advise. Should I just plug off all of the vacuum ports on the carb then? What tutorial are you refering to?
