Question Mythbuster: Did they ever make a one-time RX-7 with 4-wheel steering?

This subject matter is brought to you by the fine folks at Advance Auto Parts. The guy behind the counter asked me a question that I have never once heard of before in my life regarding these cars.

"Did yours come with the 4-wheel steering?"

Needless to say, I was standing there with a typical look on my face. I stated that I have never heard of these cars with such a deal. He then replied that Mazda made some sort of one time deal, or prototype, with the car having 4-wheel steering but scrapped it.

Is there any truth to this myth or is the guy just completely out of his mind?

The 2nd and 3rd gens both had some rear steer built into the suspension. Independant rear suspension is required for any rear steer to work, without having joints like the front axle of older 4WD trucks.
Could they have a prototype? sure. Was it ever sold, doubtful.
Just another case of a parts computer asking a totally irrelavent question, and the operator making an absurb story to cover up the situation.

FCs have DTSS, so it's somewhat like 4W steering

Actually, it wasn't a parts computer question. Guy was just trying to make a conversation as if he knew what he was talking about with the RX-7. Interesting...but also pathetic.
