mystery hose

Hi, I found a disconnected hose on the driver's side of the engine, near the firewall and looks like it attaches under the carb. It's about the size of the hose that attaches from air cleaner to shutter valve. It also has a strange looking clamp(looks like a wire clamp you would pinch to move, but it has a screw in it) I was told to look for a disconnected vac line to the catalytic converter. Just wondering what this hose is and where it should be hooked up. Thanks.

if the hose is on the driver's side it wouldnt be going to the converter. what you are referring to in this case would be the split air tube and that's a metal line that runs from teh converter, to a larger rubber hose that connects to the intake manifold. as stated, a pic would help. its probably for your emissions rack(rats nest). check for any places that the line that may have been disconnected from. it shouldnt have a clamp and a screw, i can tell you that.

Ok, I'll see what I can do about a picture. It is a rubber hose with clamps that is attached to a metal line that appears to plug in near or on the intake manifold. It hooks on about level with the top of the tranny and slightly to the passenger side. The end of the hose reaches about to the exhaust manifold.

ok, that does sound like the rubber line part of your split air tube.

Not sure what you are talking about, but if it's the one I think it is, yes it would screw things up big time. A picture would help. Valcuum leaks kill performance and will take 5-10 mpg off your gas mileage. Check to see if it's a vacuum connector by putting your finger over each connection when the engine is running, if it's sucking you need the tube.

In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs and carb manual. Download those and look for your part there. When you find it, post back and we'll see what we can do.
