To make sure we understand each other, which way do you move the dizzy to make it retarded? and looking at the polley facing it, which mark is the leading one? the one on the left or the one on the right?

You are right. So one more question. Which cable do you connect the timing light to when checking leading timing?

Yeah that's correct too. The only think I can think off is that the dizzy got set one tooth off when last put in. In any case, if you can reach the correct timing, and there is room to make it advanced, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If its really out of timing then the dizzy gear is out one tooth. Pop the bolt and rotate it one tooth clockwise.

You did disconnect the vacuum advance before checking, right?

Good Morning Chris;
Can you Post those Pic's that you have showing the Position of the Distributor Bolt.
I think that might get you a answer in reference to being off a Tooth or 2. (ie To Much Advace or Retard).

From what I remember in that Picture you had cut away some of the Disti Plate to get her timed???

If he is checking timing at idle I don't see why he has to disconnect vacuum advance before checking.

On piston engines you disconnect and plug the vacuum advance hose to time, yet I have never seen a reference any where for the need to do this on a rotary.
