I just delt with this issue and it's one of two things.
Your Ignition Coil or your Ignitor, the ignitor can be had pretty cheaply from the Parts section on the forums here, you don't wanna buy one new since they are $150 at least.
The easiest way to test your coil is to run your car and CAREFULLY pull the wire that runs from your coil to the distributor. FYI it's an easy way to shock yourself, but that's the fastest way to check it.
Most likely you will only have spark running on your Leading 2 spark plugs, the trailing ones will have no spark.
The way to check to make sure it's the coil and not the ignitor is to switch the leads/connectors of the leading and the trailing ignitor. The ignitors on located on the sides of the distributor.
When you switch the connectors on the ignitors and the car begins to make spark on the trailing plugs and not the leading plugs you know it's the ignitor.
If you get no spark at all, chances are it's the coil - but you can also check the coil using a voltmeter as well.
Check the FAQ for the 85 factory repair manual in the Engine Electrical section for pictures of all this stuff.

your considered to be "the man" for now on hah, thanks bro, i was never aware that a tach was so much a part of the engine in that sense, where the damn sparks arn't firing, wow
