My story,

started in 1997 and I was looking for a rx7, had bought a 79 basket case the year before and had to get rid of it because I moved. I was looking in the recycler and found a clean Yellow 79 that listed tons of work done and second owner. It was priced at 2800 or best offer. When I called the number a lady answered, I asked about the car and whether they would take 1500 "The most I had to spend." The lady said she would ask her husband. Later on, the husband called before I was getting ready to go to work and told me to mail him the money and he would mail me the title joking. I am sure he could tell I was young and proceeded to give me a lesson, saying I should never make an offer on something I hadnt seen. I paused for a moment, and then told him that I never said I would give him 1500 but only asked if he would take it. He lauged for moment, then said, "kid if you come here with 1500 and like the car you can have it for 1500."

My grandmother drives me 2 1/2 hours and I am on pins and needles to look at it. I still remember turning the corner and seeing this just washed and waxed yellow SA parked in the driveway. In my mind, as long as it fired up it was going to be mine. It had all of the service records from when it was new and at the time only 104k on the clock. I drove the car for about 3 years and some of my best memories involve that car.

I still have it to this day, but it has not been on the road now since 2000, time flies. I have slowly accumulated parts for it over time, and have it stored at a friends shop in So-Cal. I am too ashamed to show pictures of it now after the desert sun has had its way with it. My friend gives me a hard time saying I could buy a good one for the cost of fixing that old thing up, to which I reply that I could never do that and he is a car guy and should understand.

I am currently restoring a 77 REPU to take to 7stock this year, but would love to take out my old SA for a long over due run next year.

Here is my story. I drove sports cars all my adult life (53 now) Owned my own business and 3 1/2 years ago had a stroke. Was self insured with $45,000 in the bank. Had caught the wife 2 timing me and she broke my heart and I put her back on the shelf for someone else. My business went to pot and I just didnt care about life and then the stroke came due to stress over the divorce. The hospital took all my savings and I had to sell the 2 300Z's I owned to cover bills. Sold the company and semi retired and am now a fulltime knifemaker and am doing really well. 4 months ago a friend traded me his 81 RX7 (for 2 knives) and it barely ran. Well I have put a new carb on it, rebuilt front end etc and it runs great and life is good and I am truly in love with it. These 1st gen. are real sports cars and I like it a lot better than the 300z. I feel I am finally back in track with life.

i was in the market for a "small daily driver that got great gas mileage". one day i was about an hour from home heading to a family gathering, and spotted mine on the side of the road for sale. it was the first fb i had seen, and needed a paint job, but i loved it. i bought it thinking it would get great gas mileage during my commute to school, and be the best $1000 i could spend. 4 years later, a street port 12a, yaw carb, and rb header/magnaflow exhaust (not to mention converted black interior, wheels, and new paint job), i realized that i had around $5k invested, and terrible fuel economy. so much for that idea. i cant quit spending my money on this thing.

Story time yay. Well i had never seen a rex but i always heard about them. My Friend from Highschool always talked about his uncles GSL-SE and how pwn it was. i didnt really think much of it i was more into muscle cars. Always looking for a mustang to buy...(i feel stupid now). Well i went to a party at my Friends new Apartment after he Graduated early, and saw this sexy car in the driveway. It was his uncles Rex that he bought. I wanted to drive it so bad. I knew if i did i would have to buy one. I was driving a civic then(and sadly i still am), i thought my civic was fast like most rice boys. But he tossed me the keys to his car one night to drive someone home. It was like sex, I almost didnt give his keys back. Me and him ended up moving in together working for his dad and i was on the hunt for a gen 2 or gen 3. The plan was to sell the 01 civic to put a down payment on a gen 3. but one day at work i was looking through the thrifty nickle on lunch break and i found and ad. 1979 RX7 Ported Exaust and Engine Dual Carbs 48000 miles 2k. I was stoked after work we went to see it. Cracked dash, Surface rust, rims black from sitting in the dirt and the paint so faded it was gray. A week went by and i finnally called the owner. Howard Ong, i met him drove it and came back to buy it. settled on 1500 and it was probly more then it was worth. but i love her. shes broke down on me 4 times and been to the shop 2. only carb work luckly nothing to bad to replace. All electric is pretty new because i replaced it all when it wouldnt start and rust came out of my Ignition coils. one problem down and many more to come. I would be driving it now but i dont have the money to paint her. shes been sitting in a friends garage because she couldnt pass emissions but now that the law is gone i can drive her. only problem being winterweather and the fact that half her paint is stripped where the surface rust was. But in March she'll be done.

[edit]I should have mentioned im also and Eric but with a ch like dis->>>Erich
