my rex sounds like a mustang!

WTF, i have never had an idle problem, except it's a bit high, until a week ago. i drove downtown to my community college, parked in the deck, went in to class. everything was normal. about 5 hours later (its a state inspection class) i come out, it's raining. i go to my car, crank it up and it's stuttering a bit but not hunting to stall. i figure it's the cold weather and rain and stuff and when it warms up it'll be fine. NEVER CHANGED. i drove thru, actually inch'd thru, 5'oclock traffic with my car idleing like blug blug bluggg blu blu blu BLUG ..... BLUG BLLLAP. it's been doing it ever since. never stalls, just sounds like its CAMMING! all my ignition is very very recent. replaced all dizzy stuff and ignitors about 1 month ago if that. when i'm gettin on it and wot it's totally like it was. pullin hard and driving beautifully. BUT when i kinda cruise and doing say 45 mph in 5th; it kinda stutters. i still have my acv hooked up, i need to order/make a block off plate. but why would that cause my problem as of months and months down the road???? i know this was long, but any help is appreciated. I WUV YOU GUYS!

Maybe the electrodes are corroded. How long has it been since you changed your plugs? What brand are you using...NGK I hope. When they corrode the gap is widened. The spark has to jump farther at idle and low RPM's because there is less of a charge. At higher rpms the spark has an easier time jumping the gap because the pulse is stronger. I'm not saying that changing your plugs could solve your problems...but remember to replace the cheapest things and work your way up until the problem is solved. Did you foul your plugs at all?

Try using NGK BR8EQ14's, they are about 5 bucks each..depending on where you shop.

I would say to not even bother searching for the "best plugs". Youll just come up with NGK .

mine was doing this as well. i looked around and it turned out i had a vacuum leak. also, when i would turn my a/c on, it would do that really bad, (800rpms-1400rpms). i played around with unplugging different things, and it was related to the white switch on the rats nest. it had a hose that went into a valve like thing. i adjusted the screw and its fine. i would just say play around with unplugging different hoses one at a time. try to put your ear down around some of the spots and see if you can hear a vacuum leak. thats what im thinking it is.

Mine did the same thing last month. Turns out I forgot to connect a hose after having the air cleaner off. Simple vaccuum leak. Just do a bit of looking around. I'll bet you that you have a loose/cracked hose.

OMFG! i wish i had seen these before i bought new plugs today. hahahaha, well i got some nice new ngk's and YEP. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS! but, i'm still very happy that i got these ngk's cause when i took out for a test spin, i felt a difference. much smoother acceleration and seemed to be a bit more pick up in the low end! BR8EQ14's. YEA BABY YEAAAA! i'm gonna search for that vaccum leak RIGHT NOW! will post later on results.

ok, too bad noone here lives near me cause i would ask you to slap me. i listened, looked, listen harder, crammed my face in to the rats nest, messed with lines, sprayed carb cleaner around to listen for engine revs, NOTHING. so i got pissed as hell and started ripping the rats nest out. well now i'm too far in to remember where anything goes, so i'm on my way to being doomed. hahaha, i'm bout to take alook at the whole write up on this. it's kinda fun, it's lookin alot cleaner. i cranked it for fun and boy now it wont idle at all. YIPEEE!

having never messed with the rats nest this is only a guess, but you might have to adjust the carb to compensate for the lack of a rats nest. I plugged my shutter valve and had to adjust the carb in order for it to run right. Maybe you have to do the same when the rats nest is gone.
