my redline suprise
my redline suprise
ok so im not sure if this is suppose to happen, but when i redline my 12a the horn goes off?
happen's every time, no matter what gear or what the situation is. once the needle hits 7 grand i get a loud BEEP!
this normal? like some sort of ghetto redline warning? or is something seriously effed up?

Yeah its not the horn, its a little buzzer. With some ingenuity, you can adjust when it goes off, disconnect it, or make it into a shift light instead of that annoying buzzer.
thanks guys
glad to know my cars not just trying to eff with my head
shift light you say? and i can adjust when the "buzzer" goes off? i must look into this. i just happen to have a few random shift lights from my old autometer tach laying around

It's not an "upshift" buzzer; it's an "Over-Rev Warning." In it's stock form, it marks a theoretical line you cross on a stock engine at your eventual peril.
It came and went a couple times across the 1st gen timespan. 79's had them, 80's did not, later models some did.

here is a little write-up someone did on how to make it adjustable

I have both -- the stock overrev buzzer and a Raptor shift light. I like them both, but I give a slight nod to the shift light because of 2 things:
1) It's more accurate. The OEM tach reads about 10% too high. When the analog buzzer goes off, you're never quite sure what the RPM is. With a good digital shift light, it will go off at exactly the RPM you set it to.
2) It's easier to adjust the RPM limit on the shift light. On mine, I just turn a dial on the underside. With the buzzer, I'd have to open up the cluster . . .

On the SA's they were a literal buzzer mounted to the rear of the instrument panel, hooked into the tach circuitry.

Its perfectly normal its an "Over Rev Buzzer" that was designed to remind you to shift.
