I bought my SE here in Michigan also. 95K, $1300. Never seen winter, always stored inside. Everything but tires and battery were original. And the cap and rotor, ok brakes too. But the belts and hoses are original.
You can find them, you just gotta look!

if you listen quietly on a winter night, you CAN hear Michigan rusting!

damn, I replaced the wipers, there goes the resale value!

I must admit I kinda like the PS. I really didn't want to go there... but it really helps getting into this side entry garage with the narrow driveway! Takes a while to get used to it.

I think leather and power steering were the only options on a SE (everything else was standard). And I think that the way the factory builtthem was, if you got one, you got both. It's that "trim level" way of production planning.

The 1st Gen power steering probably used less than 1HP. When Not being used (going straight) it uses none. It's one of the best power steering units out there.

I have mine - and LOVE IT!!

Another one with 22k miles sold on Cars.com for $9k last month, and the dealer had a ton of calls for it.

By the way, this car was in Pinckney MI, a little rural area between Detroit and Lansing. And there's another low mile RX-7 for sale in Pinckey... how strange is that? It's an 83 S with just 18k miles! It's on Cars.com, but the guy is asling $12k. I spoke with him, and told him he should expect $4k to $6k at tops.
Damn, i'm from Dexter. I would have loved to just look at the car.

I have power steering on mine, it just doesn't work.

How much do you think it would cost for a shop to replace the pump and what not? I have all the parts from a working car.
