My Massive oil COOLER pics inside

Here it is the biggest oil cooler anyone has ever put on a 7... Do you think the sheer mass of this thing is going to cause problems? What do you think?

I am going to mount a push fan infront and have a pull behind the rad..

HERE IS THE MONSTER!!!

My Mellow Dew bottle is to show size reference....

Well, why.....umm... Why ask why? Bigger is better right? LOL.. Got it dirt cheap, Thought the track car might appreciate it... I will probably hold 2x as much oil now.

I realyy don't know why.. but why not..

It is 3x13x19 with 1/2 lines

Well, there's the extra weight, it being for a track car and all. Still, probably worth it for the "mine is bigger than yours" factor.

It actually weighs 8lbs... What does the OEM one weigh?

I'm assuming you mean the beehive, if it's going in the '85. Dunno, never owned one yet. Doesn't look big enough for 8lbs, but the difference probably isn't much.

Edit: Gonna be some hose weight too, I imagine.

Edit #2: I don't auto-x or worry about weight myself. Just idly passing some time while I screw around on eBay.

Only issue I can think of would be a big pressure drop. Keep a close eye on your oil pressure for the first bit of operation. Especially at hi rpm's.

oil has an optimum working temperature, I hope your cooler doesn't reduce the temp outside of the range...

Where did you get that? I need that for my van's tranny, it has issues, but that would solve them. For an rotary engine, I havent any idea yet. I could only see if you had previous problems while high rpms, and mabye even turbo( could see that helping alot) .

you would need to drain that thing every oil change, other wise have of your oil would be old oil. you might be doing harm with keeping your oil too cool like someone was saying.

You might be onto something. I do believe the oil siphons back into the pan when the car is not running so I don't see much oil sitting in the cooler during a change. However, would it be possible that the volume of oil during circulation would exceed that of what the pan will hold? Better yet, just do away with the pan and add a dip stick to the cooler!

Nice, but you don't want your oil too cool.. keep an eye on the temperature gauge and make sure it's not outside conventional operating temp.

That's not a oil cooler. It looks like the water to air heat exchanger I have in my furance and in my shop. How much did you pay for it? They are kind of pricey. Looks nice but I would't use it as a oil cooler, It might not handle the high pressure.

That is exactly what it is.... It is rated for 200psi. I am considering not using it due to the potential for pressure drop... I am going to see how it goes.

That cooler is all but overkill except for motors that get revved over 9000rpms on a regular basis. An oil cooler that size is what GT2 & GT3 rotaries use. Overkill for street stuff.

I bet a good ultrasonically cleaned 13b oil cooler is all you'll ever need. And an oil thermostat is highly reccomended.

im thinking maybe it won't be overkill, due to the fact that oil plays a huge part in cooling the rotary, maybe even more than coolant. I would upgrade the oil pump and pressure regulator first though...if u haven't already done it.
