i posted how i did the hood in my other thread, and i've yet to weigh all the junk that came out. my estimate is ~5lb total.

(at my stage of weight reduction, 5lb is quite a lot.)

here's the thread for the hood.

If I had a hood like that, Skeletor might have been able to escape.

took the hood off of my 79 last night and measured out how i wanted to cut out my vents. looks like yours but i did mine on both sides. all as i need to do now is paint it and put it on. i took befor, middle and after pics. i have them on a digital camera and will put them on my mod thread in 2 days. i like the hood and the lights. great job. how much weight did you reduce by doing the headlights like that?

ok..since so many ppl asked and i didn't know, i grabbed the bathroom scales and weighed the junk.

using a large 4lb plastic storage bin, throwing everything in, it registered 24lb.

so ~19lb shaved from the headlight modification.

motors/linkages/housings were weighed.

one guy told me to sell it as a kit since it's so much cheaper than the other solid headlights kits

I can't say I'd do the same, but good on you for trying something different

I'm confused - why do you need headlights for autocross? Why not just remove them entirely, or is this to be driven on the road as well?

the only problem i c with this is the housein you made to hold the light will cut the beam pattern on the sides of at night time.. have you tested this setup? i like the cp racing setup much better.. maybe do a similar mock up to that.. looks good though.. keep up the custom work

Check out this link:
http://www.miata.net/garage/bsplow/

The kit is for Miata's but will fit 1gens with little modification. The cost is about $350.
