my friends a F****** idiot!!

Well i let my buddy drive my 83 GSL. Being the retard he is, dropped it in reverse, the car jumped all over the place, then it died. Drove down the road again and when it reaches low RPM's it would die....drove around a little bit farther, stoped at a stop sign and it was idleing fine, 800-900ish....what could of caused that?

that's why you don't let other people drive your car. If he did it on purpose, kick his ***!

OK so he had the car kangaroo hopping, I get it now, it sort of sounds like a fuel issue, back to basics, fuel filter replacement.....Does it miss at constant throttle.

........... I let my friends help me twice with my 7, now no more........ one of them hooked the jumper cables up backwards to thier battery booster.... toasted a fusible link. then my other friend being the behemoth he is tried to pick up my car when I was inside and bent my drivers side fender........... I hate "helpful" friends.... BTW his excuse was he thought it was lighter than it really was............. moron..............

Thats strange. I dumped the clutch in my 7 while in reverse once and all it did was burn the tires off and take off going backwards. No wheelhop to speak of.

Your friend probably just shook up the fuel pretty good in the carb and mabey starved it of fuel for a short time. Thats all I could guess.

Did your friend rev the engine and dump the clutch while in reverse, or did he just completetly dump the clutch on idle?

this is a super dumb question and also i dont mean to jack this thread but on the topic...
i was wondering what would happen if u were driving forward (even at slow speeds like 20mph) and shift it into reverse? is this even possible? do our clutches have a reverse lock so when we are driving forward it wont allow us to shift into reverse? or would your engine and tranny blow up? or would you just stop really fast and hop backwards?
such stupid questions but i keep wondering what will happen.

There are no synchros for the reverse gear. This is the reason that sometimes you need to put it into 1st gear first, then reverse. Most manual transmission vehicles have non synchro reverse gears. You CAN get it into gear going forward, but it would most likely take both arms and a really hard yank, and it would grind like a son of a bitch.

Same thing happened to someone else on this forum some time ago when he shifted hard into second (from first). He also said that the car hopped and then it had problems in the low rpms.

Turn out it was the temp sensor at the rad that had come loose.
