My first video project

many of you know that I'm going to Full Sail for their digital media program. I used to specialize in everything from flash, HTML, logos, business cards, page layout...

Well, we've been introduced to Adobe After Effects which is used to create motion graphics. Our first project was to use still images to create a 30 second commerical to sell a product. I chose the RX-8. Now before this gets moved to another section, I'm known here only on the 1st gen section, not in the lounge, and not anywhere else. I feel it's appropriate for it to be here because of that. So, without further ado... here's the fruits of my labor.

http://www.ten15.net/full.mov

Those with Quicktime Pro can download it to disk afterwards, those without can go here.

So, let me know what you think, and enjoy.

*sigh*

How about us poor people running linux that don't have the ambition to download the newest version of mplayer? (i.e., do ya have an mpg? =)

By the way, you may have just changed the course of my life! I've been doing CompSci because I couldn't find a school that looked good for stage tech stuff... But this place looks like it could be =)

If you *don't* have an mpg I may have to break down and boot winblows =(

I could render it out as mpeg, but I'd be tempted to do mpeg 4 since I want to keep the file size relatively small, and suddenly you're back to not being able to play it...

Sorry man - I usually am good on being user friendly, but don't feel like booting up Cleaner just to export an mpeg

Maybe tomorrow I'll hook you up

That was awesome man! I haven't seen any ads on TV for the Rx8 yet.. stupid mazda. Everything I see is either geared towards the Mazda6, or the Protoge5, but nothing about the Rx8... Hell if they wanna be sellin' em, they'd better get their *** in gear.

Yes, I know there was a blue Rx8 in X2
Yes, I know the renesis won engine of the year
Yes, I know both the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun car section reporters got to drive them and wrote raving half-and-full page reviews of them...

But I was at the dealership the other day and there were no posters, no ads, no "The Renesis is Coming" anywhere....

And On TV, I hear *whispers* zoom zoom... but I don't see our car!

Good work pratch, keep up the awesome work man. Now if only you could DivX it and compress it so that 1 minute didn't take 22mb.... and start doing your tutorials with movies instead of pdfs.... that'll be the day!

Thanks for the feedback. Mpeg4 is better quality than divx, and unlike the ever-changing divx is actually an accepted standard

The only reason it takes 22MB is because I didn't want to toy around with anything other than sorenson3 at high quality and uncompressed video. I promise to do some feeling out of the compression over the next few days, but may add an .mp4 up there in the next 30 min.

Not bad, not bad at all. The bit where the RX-8 is zipping around with the Mazda logo in hot pursuit is a little cheezy, but otherwise, A1 SUPAR! I loved the music choice and the catch phrase.

Again, thanks for the feedback.

And due to popular demand (or something) there is now an Mpeg 4 version. I had it down to 2 Megs, but didn't care for the quality loss. It's now 5.1M Should improve bandwidth usage to some degree...

I'm not a huge fan of commercials... but I will say... I was hoping to see a longer commercial. VERY well put together, and very clean. Kudos, Mr. Pratch.

Again, thanks for the kind words.

Chef, I'm sorry it's short - the requirement was to make a 30 second commercial - the last 30 are for the "author bumper".

Yeah - Full Sail is very good, their name opens a lot of doors. The tuition is expensive, but well worth it. I'd recommend their Digital Media program (same one I'm in) because they have a really high job placement percentage (last graduating class had over 90% of students placed in jobs within 90 days of graduationi...

So you'd recommend it then?
To, say, a recording/live sound guy?
How expensive is "expensive", compared to a university?

If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you'd drop me an email or pm so I could ask a few more questions =)

Oh, and I finally saw the video clip today-- I like =)

This is true,

But how many more people have heard of a corvette than an RX-8?

enigma has hit it on the head!

every time I tell someone about my car I'm like "It's a 1984 Mazda Rx7... not sure if you've heard of it".. because most of them will admit that they haven't!

However, if I said I was driving, for example, a 1986 Corvette, they'd definitely be able to know what I was talking about.

We have to get this car KNOWN..... once it's known, it will hopefully be *desired*.... and then .... Renesis for all! think about 240hp in a 1st gen with a stock crated Renesis....

I can't wait to see what Yaw does with his!

Thanks.

As for Full Sail's Recording Arts program...

Here's the cold reality. Unless you know people in the industry, the only jobs you're likely to get are pushing brooms in a sound studio. There are currently more students in RA than in digital media, computer animation and game design combined.

As for expense. The equipment at Full Sail is top-of-the-line and therefore very expensive to keep current. My DM tuition for the 13 month program is $36K for tuition/books alone...

Just a few cents. Email away - I'm always willing to answer questions.

I heard that the first 5 months of production were already sold. Either way - they have a winner on their hands, and the FE(?) will probably be seen summer 2005
