Read,read,read and learn,learn,learn.
There are lots of performance parts you can bolt onto a first gen,and many of them will give you a nice bump in HP.However, the majortiy of them will not be smog legal and I see you are close to the Bay Area,so smog is likely a big issue.

Lots of stuff there and some good info too.Youve got a long way to go before a turbo would be a good idea. The older Rx-7s are carbed,so a turbo isnt just a "bolt on" mod.Yes,they have turbos that literally just bolt on for Hondas and Acuras, but these cars a bit different. There is no fuel injection and the majority of the turbo kits and performance stuff was developed in the 1st gens haydays, back in the 80s.Parts and kits for turboing the carbed 12A are getting harder to come by and, well, their jst plain archaic compared to modern stuff.Often its best to assemble your own turbo kit from various parts. But youll need more than just a turbo.Turboing any engine changes almost every aspect of how that engine runs and behaves,so youll need to adress nearly all the systems on the engine for it to be reliable and safe.Fuel delivery, ignition timing/control,exhaust system, cooling, and air delivery all need to be altered to properly turbo any engine.

what makes you say that? You shouldn't discourage him, it is possible but would cost a lot of money and would require you being a dedicated to the project for a long period of time...

If you can turbo a 1992 ES300 (I have seen this, several times in fact) you can turbo anything
