My FB

Hey there, I just joined up (1st post, duh.) and I just recently got my FB, figured you might want to take a look. First off, the specs.

1. 1979 GSL-SE, Originally from British Columbia, now mine in Manitoba 77,000 original kms when purchased.

2. Street ported 12A, Headers, Welded secondaries, carb is jetted, Dayton Clutch, Dunlop tires (forgot specs, sticky though), air pump/ac and all other un-neccesary parts removed, Koni adjustables, K&N drop-in, front end swap from an 84, seats from an 84, Front air dam, and that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Anyways, here's the pics.

Any idea what this would run with a good driver?

Looks good, but like Gregs said, that's not a GSL-SE. They were built in 84-85, also have the 13B (1.3L) with fuel injection. You've got the 12A (1.1L).

I hope you"re not driving that car in winter?

Nice seats by the way.

Maybe he has ricer badges? Kinda like a Type R Civic? Hehe...

Nice looking car, though!!!

Recommend looking through the FAQ page on the top of the 1st Gen section. Look at Felix's site. You'll learn everything you could ever possibly know about these cars.

Alright I got caught . No ricer badges, but in all honesty the guy who sold it to me didn't tell me what it was, so I was simply going by the hints I was reading here and there (aka the SE came with sunroof or something, I don't remember what made me assume it.)

And uhh yeah, It's being driven in the winter. only for another week or so though, then it's going into storage.

As for the SA thing, I guess it's considered different from an FB then? What's considered an FB?

I'm not an idiot or anything, just new to the whole RX-7/Rotary thing.

YO I had the same car (in brown tho) YOu got a early 79 late 78 model Gs. The gs had teh upgrade interiors, with the tach, glass removable roof, rear hatch release, ac, and the important early model mod, the hood prop was on the right not the left for the cars. Oh and dont worry you can drive in the winter, just let it warm up first! I miss my 79 (BOOO HOO HOO!!)

SA and FB are the first 2 letters on the VIN # the 79-80 models had a few different things like the shifter and the bumpers were different form the FB. 81-85 are all considered FB's again VIN #. Both are first generation RX7's though. second gens = fc and 3rd gens = fd.

Looks pretty nice. I believe those are 84-85 GSL-SE seats though. Wheels look aftermarket, and I'd say yours is probably a GS, since it doesn't appear to have power windows.

Looks like he has the '83 Limited Edition wheels. Should be 14" instead of the 13" stock.

that would be the stock front end on there man, but i love the air dam on it. 84's didnt have the steel bumpers. the seats are out of either a gsl or gsl-se, theyre comfy. got a set sitting in my living room right now hehe.

looks like youve got the racing beat exhaust, take a look at the header and see if its got RB cut out of the flange. if so look under the car and see if it goes dual all the way back to the muffler. im almost positive thats what youve got. its exactly what ive got is why

my car with a streetported 12a, holley carb, and racing beat streetport exhaust on stock style clutch of unknown age, $30 sumitomos, electric fan, weighing in at about 2300 lbs has run a best of 14.8, best trap is 93, and im runnin rich and crappy in general. so you should be able to pull 14's if you get the hang of it

Oh no no, by front end, I mean ball joints, control arms and tie rods sort of thing, all brand new, and apparently the front discs / seats are from an 84, so you would be correct.

14s are good

Hey there. I'm in Winnipeg too, and I looked at that car this summer. It must have been for sale for a while. It was REALLY nice looking when I saw it too. Too bad he's still running the original Nikki carb. That should be first on your list come spring. Those seats are out of an SE, by the way. Where in the city do you live?

I'm in St-B. How about you? Not sure if I've ever seen your car, but maybe you could help me out when modifying mine. What kind of carb would you guys suggest? I'm not sure if it's just the setup, but I'm getting at most like 200kms to a tank.

Oh yeah, I've just begun to notice aswell that when cornering hard, my driver's side seat shifts ever so much, just enough to bug me. I guess when he installed them he did it poorly, anyone else experience this kind of problem?

You're gonna wanna talk to Robert at Rotary Shack. He'll give you the best deal (from what I HEAR) on a Weber 45 or 48. 200 kms to a tank seems REALLY low. My car runs like *** and I get 300 I think. I'll know for sure when I empty this tank.

Btw, I'm in St. Vital/St. Boniface too.

Oh, and I'm a complete dumbass when it comes to carbs. What kind of advantages would I get from a Weber 45 or 48 and what kind of $$ am I looking at? Sorry bout all the questions, I'm just really interested in modding my car, and I just got it .

P.S. One thing I do know about carbs is those individual side draft ones look f-in sweet.

Fred Pichenko(??) is "RX-7 Heaven" here in Winnipeg. Rotary Shack is in California somewhere, but it's still worth buying from him. He apparently makes the best manifolds and does really clean blow-through turbo setups.

The only reason I'm still driving my car is because I'm moving to BC very shortly and won't need another car for this winter. Just keep it free from salt most days and it should be fine.

Lucky guy, I'd love to move to BC. Did you mean it's worth buying from RX-7 Heaven or from Rotary shack?
