my engine block is smoking

'83 base model and when it has been running for a while, smoke comes from the engine bay. Mainly coming from either underneath air filter cover or from inside the carb. Its hard to tell. Engine pulls strong through powerband. Please help

Dowel pin leak and oil is burning off the top of your engine once it gets hot.

That's my bet.

Check your OMP lines, and your OMP itself. People will blame everything else but that $20 part from MSC. Heh.

Or it might be the intake O-rings. Check and see if your coolant is still full. If its not then its the O-rings in the intake manifold. Cheap part and about 45min to fix.

Sorry, but, Not. Dowel pin leaks are on the driver's side. If the smoke smells oily, it's probably the mop lines, if it smells like coolant, it's the intake o-rings.

Timing is also a slim possibility, but you have to have a leak somewhere first for anything to burn off.

I would have to agree with trochoid...its a draw between mop lines of the intake o-rings...not so sure about timing posing a problem as far as smoke coming out of the engine bay

engine still smoking

Returned my '83 to the shop beacuse of smoke from the engine bay. He tightened up some seals around the OMP (wich he replaced 3 months ago) and said a small leak remained where the 12A logo is. He sprayed the motor with degreaser and rinsed it off, so its pretty clean now. I drove it home and checked for leaks again and its leaking from the carb area still. It sucks pulling up to a light and smoke is coming from my engine bay. Does anybody have any idea what needs to be fixed. I dont really know that much about engine work (changing an alternator or shocks is about as far as I go) and I dont know many mechanics in the area (Norfolk, VA) that have a good knowledge of rotaries. I love my '83 and really would appreciate any help or suggestions any of you fine folks would have.
