Nice looking ride Ray. I'm kind of surprised though, there are some very nice high-dollar mods done to the car, but some of the most basic (and cheap) mods seem to be missing. Well, it will give you something to do over the winter anyway...

I'm not sure I like the whole idea of the breather filter on the oil fill tube though. I keep my crankcase under vacuum and it seems to keep the oil cleaner longer (no condensation buildup)....

What cheap mods are overlooked? It is a 13b..BTW. I just purchased a car from a dealer on our strip that another tech told me about. Let me know what should be done.

Your a good man Ray, I'll bet you heed your wife too. lol

Door panels have been redone, and look very good. I have yet to understand some of Mazda color combinations though. Of the 3 S3 interior colors offered, gray would be my last choice with a brown exterior. I have a brn/brn 85 and actually like it inside and out, gray interior is my favorite however.

Lol, funny you say that. If you can find me another for the passenger of the same color I will pay good for it. The passenger side has a Burgandy (I think, I am color-blind) one in place. You recon that was the original color?

*EDIT:* I am also looking for the windshield side trim (2), passenger door handle/handle mechanism, Driver side window handle, and driver side tail light assembly. Also, two original RX-7 side badges..as well as original mazda emblem

I have not ever seen a brown/grey combination, this is the first. My 83 GSL was brown/brown.

A recommendation if I may be so bold Ray. Get a heat shield for your manifold and remove the header wrap. The feedback I have seen on the forum is negative on usage of header wrap.

If I may for sake of curiosity ask why that is for these rotarys doc? I'll have to try to find the RPO code and see what the original interior color was.

I'm not sure what the po was trying to do, but my guess is he was colorblind too. You have all 3 S3 interior colors. The dash and steering wheel are brown, so i will venture a gues it was originally brown. However, the seats, carpet, glove box door, some of the vents and the arm rest are gray. The passenger door panel is red.

Post pics of the headliner and hatch area, that will give a better clue, but I'd say it was brown from the factory. The insert on the driver's door does not match any fabric pattern I've seen in a 7 before. Your best bet may be to replace all of the red and gray parts with brown.

In regards to the header wrap, rotary exhaust can run 400* hotter than piston, the wrap tends to accelerate metal deterioration, particularly on some of the cheaper, thinner headers.

Ray-
You have some nice mods on the car

From what I can see

I see you have some MSDs for leading and trailing
Electric fan
Braided oil cooler lines
Oil temp adapter
JW or Jay tech intake. It looks more like JW.
Holley most likely 600cfm
Header

As far as engine, it appears to be a 6 port second gen engine. I noticed the EGR on top.

The carpet appears aftermarket, as far as the color changes, maybe the prior owner couldn't find brown or was converting to grey and couldn't find the rest.

The seats look like 84 or 85 GSLSE seats. I might have a mint passenger side grey seat.

Again, nice car, knowledge is power. Read up all you can about these rotaries and you will enjoy yourself. They have good things and bad things but overall they are fun.

Nice car Ray, i've always been a big fan of brown exterior..

If you are interested in redoing the interior, I can cut you a deal on a FULL interior from an 85 GSL-SE. It's grey, if you're still tryin to convert it over. This interior is MINT, PM me if you're interested....

That is an amazing find, and as for the whole header wrap I could only imagine it to be due to the simple fact that rotaries are so much hotter than piston engines.
