My car does not run.

I recently purchased an 85 GS and the car ran but seemed in need of carb tuning. Got it home and drove it for three days then died on day. Has not run right sense. Now it does not run at all. I changed an arcing coil, put on new plug wires, replaced a burnt igniter, and checked the wiring to make sure the right thing was doing the right thing. The coils both fire as do both the plugs. Car does not run. I am really unsure of where to go from here. It won't even fire. I gets very badly flooded, I spin it for long periods of time, let it sit, come back and huge vapor clouds of gas still come out. Even with the fuel pump shut off it doesn't seem to want to unflood. I am at my wits end and would appreciate any and all thoughts.

Are you POSITIVE that you have the wires for the coils and the spark plugs right? The coil closest to the front of the car is the trailing. Lower left plug is L1, upper left T1, lower right L2, upper right T2.

I accidently had switched some wires on time and had problems similar to yours. Also, are you sure that the ignitor you put in is good?

Do you have good spark? You mention both coils firing aas well as both plugs. All four plugs should be firing when youre trying to start it. Also, did you replace the plugs? It might help.

the plugs are a few days old, I read that the first coil is the leading and the second the trailing, are you sure about that?? I do have the wires in the right place I know that much, this is not my first rotary car, nor my first first gen, though it is the first one I have ever worked on.

Sounds like it's flooded. From my understanding, a flooded rotary won't unflood itself if left to sit for a while.

yes I realize that
as stated above I took the plugs out, spun it to get the vapor out, let it sit a bit with the plugs out, came back and spun it some more and then put them back in.

Try starting fluid after the unflood procedure.

Sounds like plug wire problems to me... front coil is supposed to be leading, actually, and the rear one is the trailing... at least that's how it's wired on my car... none of the shop manuals say which is which if I remember correctly...

Well, my trailing is (was) in front. Im sure thats the way most of the cars are. Ill try and conduct a search.

well it doesn't matter, I traced the wires, the leading igniter is firing the leading wire through a coil, so position means little. the only way the car would run is with the wires switched which at that point it ran like *** and stalled soon after I took my foot of the gas pedal. leads me to believe the leading coil is not firing for some reason. guess its time to get a new leading coil. fun fun fun. for now I would be happy just to have the car run long enough to limp it back to the parking garage so I do not get a ticket tomorrow.

Too bad I still don't have the MSD box, you could have put the direct fire setup back on it and been a lot better off probably.

Its alive, alive I tell you. Granted, running backwards coils still but it is alive. I have to figure out why it runs with backwards coils
but it does. For now I really don't care.
