My awesome new Pettit Racing 12A

I just got my 12A rebuilt and ported by Pettit racing, and it is beautiful.

-New Mazda seals and gaskets.
-Lapped and micropolished irons.
-Diamond cut rotor housings.
-Mildly street ported secondaries/exhast ports.
-Re-worked runners.
-Bearings.
-High flow oil pump/shimmed regulator.
-Powdercoated aluminum parts.
-Painted irons.
-Monogramed rotor housings (lol).
-OMP eliminated, shaft and everything. I'll be premixing with Protec oil.

I'll post some pics tomorrow, and hopefully have it installed and running by the end of the week, and hopefully a video... If I can fix my ghetto *** camera.

All in all, I've dumped $1600 into this engine$3100 if you count the engine that 81Widemariah ripped me off for, which I could only use for parts like side seals and springs, corner seals, etc. It may have been just a little more for the Pettit engine if that jackass hadn't scammed me $1500.

So here's some pics, sorry I don't have any in-build pics. (I kept forgetting my camera at home, lol)

Here's the OMP blockoff plate I made.

Monogramed rotor housings, that we kind of did as a joke at the last second, hehehe.

The only good in-port pic that I could get, because the camera would not cooperate.

New side housings, Had to replace one of my origional housings due to chatter marks, painted, powder coated, fun fun fun.

I learned alot going to Pettit, they let me hang out and watch the engine get built, and help out some too. The engine is going to be featured on their website, which is ******* awesome. When I get it running (whenever that clutch gets here from Atkins) and broken in, I'm going to go back up there and dyno it to see exactly how much it's making.

Man that engine looks so fresh and so clean. I'd be pumped to get that installed, ASAP.

Are you keeping the oil-water cooler?

I'm going to upgrade to a second gen oil cooler, as soon as I can find a good one in the junkyard. All my local yards seem to punch holes in them or bend them in half one way or another. I'll be on the Beehive untill I can find one.

Why not go with after market? You put all that money into the engine and your gonna throw a junkyard oil cooler on it? How do you know the oil cooler won't be full of metal. Washing it out is only so effective. If a motor blew theres going to be metal in the cooler. Not something I'd want to do with my new engine.

Just so hapens I have a B&M super cooler NIB for sale if your interested.

[QUOTE=Forcefed86;622533]

Got a B&M super cooler new in the box PN 70264 comes with all mounting hardware fittings and hose. This unit is suppose to be alot better than the older "tube & fin" design. 36 cooling rows, all aluminum. blah blah blah...

here it is...

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I paid $61.95 plus shipping. I'll let it go $55 obo

Story is I bought it about a month ago on ebay. I never received the package so I bought another one from summit. Well the ebay package came yesterday and I don't need a spare trans/oil cooler.

If you do go the junkyard route to maintain ease of fitment and stock appearance, at least take the cooler to a radiator shop and get them to flush it out and test it properly.

That was my plan of attack.

Would that oil cooler kit be as efficient as a Mazda cooler? I read somewhere about aftermarket coolers not being as efficient as the stock Mazda FMOCs.

Mazdatrix among others in the industry recommend only using the Mazda oil coolers, saying aftermarket ones won't cut it. But then there are some who use aftermarket ones and say they work fine so who knows. Personally I use Mazda...

Next oil cooler question is what kind to get, I have a choice now of either a 2nd gen cooler or a REPU cooler.

The REPU oil cooler will be easier to install and uses shorter hoses, plus both hose ports are right next to each other. Larger cooler than any 1st gen too.

Get it ultrasonically cleaned. There will be crud in there, it's just a matter of how much and what type.

For aftermarket Setrab makes a great oil cooler, proven. But get out the line of credit first.

Wait it out and get a SA oil cooler and new radiator. Cooling cooling and cooling, you never can be too **** when it comes to cooling an engine.

The SA FMOC and rad mount in so simple and its way way worth it.

I already have a new radiator, and mounting the REPU cooler is no big deal.

yea the repu cooler is a 8 row instead of 7. the lines more than likely wont work because they are too short. just buy some nice braided ones from mazdatrix.
