My '84 quit on me today!

I was stopped in a left turn lane, and my '84 GS died, so i restarted it, and a minute later, it died again, only this time, i couldn't restart it! It cranks fine, so i know the battery isn't gone. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did it sputter and die? Or make a big loud bang and smoke like crazy? or did it seize up and stop instantly?

a little more info would be great in solving what kinda of dying activity we're talking about here...

Pretty vague.

Check fuel pump (check for fuel in float bowls)
Check for carb flooding (fuel line way above mid center of sight glass)
Check for spark (make sure ignitions working)
Make sure your not out of gas
Check oil for emulsification (water on stick)
Pull out both top plugs and crank motor (with coils disconnected!) and feel for air being pushed out. If you have a rotor thats not pushing air out the plug oil, you lost a seal or two there.

Check plugs for fouling, etc

357,

Fuel filter, fuel filter, fuel filter

If you notice that the car will start after being left a while, but then runs like **** and dies again and won't start for another while, you got your problem.

If that doesn't fix it, then start looking at other stuff, but certainly replace that first.

Vapor Lock?

Is your fuel line boiling near the carb?

Look down the carb...see any gas coming out of the primary discharge nozzles when you press the accelerator bracket? Dying like that, I have to go with dead fuel pump or maybe the fuse that keeps power going to the fuel pump. Could also be the relay that kills power to the fuel pump when the engine's not actually running...

Hmm, hard to tell with that description. Can you elaborate a bit, please?

Sorry about the vagueness (is that how you spell it?) at first. The wasn't any loud noise, or any fumes or smoke coming from any part of the car, as far as i could tell. It was almost like it was just slowly (about 2 seconds) choked of all air and fuel, and the RPM dropped, and it died. I filled it up that morning, so i know it wasn't empty of gas. It was a very smooth drop in the RPM if that helps. After reading your posts, i wish i would have had the foresight to check the fuses, or to wait a while before calling a tow truck.
