Is my 2nd gen coil too far from spark plugs? Pics

I'm trying to mount both MSD's along with 2nd gen coil conversion in the battery tray area. I can configure the set up different so the coil would be by the a/c but I like it tucked away. I know you are supposed to have the wires as close as possible but I can't find any place to mount it with the a/c in the way. Any suggestions or should this be ok? I measured the distance and it's roughly 2 feet while the second gen is about 1 1/2 feet. I have 10 mm magnecore wires, MSD high vibration coil and using both msd's for rev limit, the motor is a fresh stock rebuild with pineapple sleeves.

Thanks

Well, I know that on the 2nd gen the coils are pretty far away from the plugs. However, the closer you can get them the shorter your plug wires will be, which should result in better performance and reliability (I guess). My plug wires are about six inches long with my 2nd gen coils...

I take it yours is on the shock tower? I really would like to put it closer but the SE won't let me unless I go without a/c. I'm thinking with the beefed up wires and msd I should be o.k but the problem is I would not be able to tell if the longer wires hurt my set up. Which is pretty much stock

Why are you using 2 msd boxes again? I think you are going to have problems with the coil wires and msd wires running so close together.

I am using 2 6al boxes for the rev limiter. This is a mock up and the wires have not been run yet. I can run them out of the way and change the configuration of the units but is it ok to have the coil that far away?

Spark will have to travel alot further and hurt performance a little, but other than that I don't see why it would be a problem. Keep them away from any other wires that may interfere and run them neat.

BTW, Just my opinion, but wouldn't that be over kill just for the revlimit? Why not just listen for the buzzer? I would worry about what would happen if ignition would cut off while revving so high.
I'm running a 6al with a 2nd gen coil but i'm not using the limiter.

I guess I have to deal with the power loss since I don't see my a/c coming out. The rev limiter is to break in my motor, then I will take the one off of trailing afterwards if I dont feel a loss. I know I really don't need the rev limiter but my wife has been with me through this build thick and thin, and deserves to drive it. So the rev limiter is just a limiter, if it bounces she knows its time to shift and I sleep better. Thanks for the help hope I don't lose too much power.

Well now, a man can understand the need to "womanproof" his ride after all.....

(I'm only kidding Kim)

You're about the same distance away as the stock coils, I don't see a problem with wire length.

I think you will be fine. Shorter is better, but it's not like that spot wouldn't work.

By the way, in my SE what I ended up doing is moving the mounting bracket for the fusible links to the strut tower (where the 12a guys normally mount the coil pack, it will fit w/ ac) and putting the coils where the fusible link spot was. It's snug, but it fits fine. You have to still get the 2nd gen plug wires for that location though, so I doubt it would have any advantage over your spot, except for being slightly easier to reach.
