Smile My 1st RX7

I just bought my 1st RX7 from e-bay. Heres the description from ebay... 12a Street Port, Mechanical secandairies on Nikki Carb, Complete Racing Beat, Exhaust System, Holley Fuel Pump, TRD Wheels, GT Grant Steering Wheel got it for 2K.

Its got 171K, no oil leaking, no smoke, SP done 30K ago, and clutch 15K ago. I bought based upon always loving the way the car looked, and getting what I felt was a good deal for 2K. However never driving one, I need some tips. I felt like off the line it's a bit slugish, and I'm not sure what rpm range is best to shift. Do they like to be redlined? The handling is awesome, but should the exceleration be smooth?

Besides plugs wires cap & rotor oil tranny fluid & filters, any recommendations on caring for my newborn. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

pull the storage bins out and see how much rust is under there, and yes rotaries dont mind to be redlined. I have heard it is good to redline it every now and then to clean out carbon and or it helps in other ways, but im not all that sure on this, someone will correct me if im wrong and can give you more answers

Check for rust as soon as you get her. If pictures from the ebay aution didn't show the storage bin area, then pull the bins from behind the backseats and look at the metal

It sounds like a nice aquisition. It should be making about 200hp flywheel. I have that much money in my RX-7 and I'm only making 150 on stockport.

Take good care of her.

Best thing you can do is read a lot, everything you can think of is in here somewhere, for specific questions use the search button at the top of the page.

Yeaaahhhh, My plan is to bomb emissions horribly with everything removed, and then I'm going to put the airpump and cat back on and try to pass. They'll be lenient seeing an improvement.

I gotta hit up someone to get another ACV sometime.

Post pics of the car as soon as you get them, or post a link to the ebay sale so we can see the car. That'd be great. Also, what year is it? What model? Base, GS, or GSL?

Storage bin rust is horrible on these cars. Check all the hoses as well. Good luck with the car, welcome to the club, and read as much as you can on here. It'll save your car no matter what problem you come across.

Muffler? DLFI would help you pass it easier, theoretically.

Pretty much the only secret is you can do whatever as long as when you go to get tester you have an airpump on full time to the cat. That's the only way to pass, other than DNA. Hell I might do DNA with the airpump-cat.

Sorry... here's the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Havent pulled the bins yet, but will do today. Pulled the dash pieces out around the clock... and shifter... light sanded them and sprayed them black.

The windows were not rolling up as well, so I pulled the door panels and worked them with some wd-40 and lithium grease and they are working fine now. The glass in the rear is also not being held up by the hydrolics so I have to buy those and the exterior rubber around the door windows on the outside need to be replaced... Would doing a motor flush be a bad idea? (maybe I should search for the rest... getting to excited) Let me knnow what you think about the pics...

Thanks for all the info I'll start the reading procedure tonight.

Looks good. Read my how-to thread in the archives about getting rid of that horrible bloody period colored interior.

awesome buy! streetported black GSL for 2 grand... I wish I could find deals like that around here. Oh and I'd say 200hp is a bit optimistic, my guess would be closer to 180. And yes you can redline it, I do it all the time (maybe a bit too much... hmmm). Enjoy it and as it was said before, just about everything you could ever want to know about this car is on this forum, search and read.

Oh yeah, and sell me your wheels for cheap

edit: nevermind the wheels thing, I read more in the auction and they are 4x100 with custom adapters.

and by the way you're going to want to get a better carb since it's streetported, that stock nikki is holding you back.

That's what I was going to say. The car probably feels a bit sluggish because of the fuel restrictions; but, for the sake of seeing if it will help, pour some MMO down the carb and let it clean out any gunk that may be built up in the motor.

I heard sea foam works better than MMO. I wish I would have tried using that before pulling my engine.
