As for liking the ricy tincan sound.... well... I don't actually know that you can get that from a rotary. They all tend to sound good, even an old blown out muffler, like mine, is a good sound. Kind of like lots of bumblebees on the deep end, and lots of mean hornets on the higher pitched ones. If you want to be loud, and I mean LOUD, get a Flowmaster 40 series. Give you lots of power too.

I'd suggest a Tiburon muffler, they've a nice look and sound to them.

Second Generation is what i have in mind, though the 1st generation probably has the same one. Search around junkyards, i'm sure they wouldn't want more than $15 for the muffler.

I take what i said back.

First generation Tiburon is actually a dual outlet muffler.

I cannot find a picture of a Second Generation (probably wouldn't find one in a junkyard anyway). They are a Single tip and look similar to a cannon style muffler, but with a modest tip of around 2 1/2"

I also suggest a muffler from all Generation Ford Probes and Mx-6s.

if you'd rather get an aftermarket muffler not made for another car, one which will probably be much more straight thru, you could always do an E-Bay search for

4" muffler
3" muffler
Megan muffler
N1 Muffler

my favorites on teh FB's are DTM mufflers. They look absolutely perfect. they fit the body lines and style perfectly, while retaining the somewhat stock appearance. so in that case search for this:

DTM muffler

None of these should be much more than like $75 plus about 25-30 shipping.

Forget what everyone else says

forget what everyone wlse says. I am the one to talk to about mufflers. Everyone will tell u to go with the RB set up. For $300 less you gan get a better sound out of your 12A. Get RB headers with presilencer, 2'' piping to a magnaflow highflow cat, and all the way back to a Blitz Nur Spec exhuast.

Blitz Nur Spec $245
RB headers $ 150
Magnaflow Cat $80
install $150- $175

$650 if my adding is correct. MZM in Austin quoted me 750 before install for the RB set up.. I don't think so and mine sounds better than anyones i have heard so far and it is so loud right now i can barley hear myself think. I would definatly recommend this setup for max hp and torque gains and better fuel efficancy.

seems to me the racing beat setup ran me about $650 plus like $50 shipping, direct from www.racingbeat.com.

But now i have a custom exhaust on my car, i have the e-bay N1. not too keen on the style any more, it doesnt really fit the car very well. I'm going to get a custom 3" DTM style muffler made for me.

I say the magnaflow sounds awsome. I have a magnaflow muffler on a 3" system. Everyone told me it was going to be loud and sound real tinny and high pitched. Its quite the opposite in fact. It has a deep sound, deeper than RB, and its no louder than any fart can on a civic. Its just great sounding. Very deep.

Another thing I would suggest is if you don't have to have emmissions test done, get the longest presilencer you can find. I'm using a 30" long cherry bomb glass pack, but that will burn out in no time. I would suggest the magnapacks from magnaflow. They are the same design as the cherry bomb, but are all stainless steel construction, so they won't melt like a cherry bomb.

I still stand by my Flowmaster. My friend had it made for me. Its a dual chamber, dual outlet forty series. Looks almost exactly like the stock muffler, has huge flow, and a unique sound.

If you buy a muffler for another car you will waste your money. Rotary engines run loud & hot. Go ahead if you want to trash it after a few months. Will be blistering loud & get boring after a week. Racing Beat has the only hp after market for the street. Give the throaty, open tone.

Rotary engines with their block style manifold and 3 cats are no louder than any piston engine with a removed muffler. As for running hot, that has nothing to do with anything.

Actually it does. Something about measureing the time it takes a glasspack to melt by seeing how many times you can drive around the block.

Stock mufflers are not glass packs.

Its true, the heat has everything to do with the exhaust. If you like the sound made by nothing just save some money and pull the muffler off. Otherwise its necessary to buy a muffler built for the extra heat of the rotary. 400 degrees farenheit is a lot of extra heat to absorb.
