muffler choice for a turbo setup.

I want to run a N1 muffler at the rear and I have the muffler.

but I would like to run one or two strait through muffler before it. will a glass packed muffler last on a turbo car. The exhaust gas is cooler on a turbo, right?

I was thinking ultra flow round muffler for presilencers and then the N1 on the rear, with stainless steel piping.

okay,

the ultraflow is advertised as being able to handle up to 1500F. that seems like enough.

I don't know about the ultraflow but I will be running 2 Borla XR-1's in series. I have heard good things about them on rotories.

Check out this thread for more info.

Actually, the exhaust is hotter on a turbo. Turbo creates a lot of heat.

Humm 1 simple answer to your question is, HELL NO.

The turbo is way way hotter of an exhaust, that glass paced POS muffler will last maybe a few minutes/hours... Measure it in blocks driven

Straight through is exactly that, straight through, the muffler doesnt really muffler **** to tell the truth, my car is louder than hell, trust me..

Search for a true prescilncer.

Mike,
Do you know of any? I have looked. Racing beats are too small. I would like to keep my exhaust fairly quiet. The 2 XR-1's is the best thing that I have been able to come up with for a 3" exhaust.

try www.horsepowerinabox.com , he had some nice choices of mufflers and such on there..BTW: Tim doesnt list anything on there for a 12A, just email him and he will be glad to help, hes a nice guy.

RB is ok, but i think the Australian stuff is a lot better, and the price is sweeter too.

Is that the I.D.? I had the RB dual exhaust on my other car with the dual presilencers. That thing sounded sweet.

I'm just concerned about it being too restrictive for my turbo. I'd like to keep it 3" all the way through. From turbo to tip.

I will have to check into that.

its the one that gives t2s 58 horsepower. im sure that its o.d. not i.d. cause that would be mammoth. its straight through too so i dont see any restriction really..

anybody got sound clips, or video whit good sound.

I could care less how loud it is, my old setup was loud.

but it didnt sound good. the sound is the important part.

I heard a 2nd gen tII and it sounded great, really smooth, not raspy like my 12a was.

Isn't the RB presilencer a 2.5"?

How do you like the HKS Muffler, got a pic or a link?

RB makes a 3" precilencer... it's on the 86 and up turbo 2 exh. systems.... it works good but it costs $$$$...

if you want a quiet exh. go with RB!!! HKS is good too, ceramic packed, straight through design...

Yes it is. I had a 3A Racing muffler in the middle before the RB presilencer and sounded Ok, but only lasted about a month(to much Heat). The HKS muffler was taken from a Mazdatrix FC exhaust. I bought it used for $30 and the presilencer for $25.

Alex there's a place on 36st NW7th AVE and he always has good stuff for sale and cheap.

I am pretty sure (so far) that I am gonna go with a dual Magnaflow setup. Probably over at Miami Muffler, they carry all that in stock, and they're 5 mins away.

I still would like to see your muffler though.

Ahhh.. Okay. What's the name of the place? Is it a Junkyard? A Towing shop?

I am actually looking for an 84/85 parts car with a fair grey interior..

I have a Borla XR-1 for a pre-silencer and the N1 for a muffler. It's nice, and i can always add the silencer to the N1, for long trips. Turbos run hotter because of the boost and the bigger bang in the combustion chamber......(Not specific, but vague)

yes it fits fine, only problem is how high/low you mounted the back half of the tranny. the higher up it is the closer the dp/prescilencer is to the frame. or you can rebend the dp just a bit but it fits fine.

wow, that thing hangs LOW.

Is it just that low because it isnt hung. That would be too low for my setup. Ill hit every little bump with that.
