Muahahah, IT'S ALIVE!!!
Guys, I'm so excited right now. Me and rxmfn7 just gotmy SE running. I bought the car about a month and half ago, if any of you remember my pics, and engine install pics, when I installed a low milage j-spec. Weather hasn't been on my side, and I haven't been working on it much. Last week I finally got it ready for a starting attempt, but it wouldn't turn over, not even with starting fluid.
We were seeing backfires and misses, which lead us to beleive it was timing related. Tonight after finishing my interior we tacked the timing.
After a couple attempts, it kicked over, and was running only by feeding it starting fluid constantly, smoking like a bastard from all the ATF and oil added to keep this motor in good shape while sitting. A few minutes later, I let off the gas, and the damn thing idled on it's own, and then died. After that, it now starts on it's own and idles without problems, however, Ithink I pissed my neighbors off with all the smoke.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll get it all blown out, so it doesn't smoke. I'l have pics soon.

C'mon guys, no love?
I think the problem was that when we initailly tried starting it, all the oil that was in there got onto the plugs, which didnt let them fire right, and then we kinda flooded it after that. After taking the plugs out and cleaning them all off, and cranking the engine with them out, it seemed to almost fire right up.

And to think, with the amount of ATF I used to unsieze the rotors, I saw one small puff of white smoke, then regular exhaust
I've said it b4 and I'll say it again, IMHO ATF is for unseizing engines, and once they're turning by hand, you turn the rotors towards you to push it out the bottom spark plug holes... that way you don't **** over your cats, or if you're straightpiped, any local area furry animals and neighbors.

The smoke screen looks familiar!
Just think what you could do, just have an ATF injector connected to a quart that you could activate while driving- instant smoke screen! :P

It actually stopped smoking thismorning shortly after startup.
I moved it out of the yard and drove it down the back alley and back, and it seems fine. My goal tomorrow is to get the rad remounted and the car filled with coolant. Then it's basically ready for the road. I really can't wait.
