msd help!!! these ignition boxes just stop working

OK guys,

Here's the issue. I run 2 msd 6al boxes one for the leading and one for the trailing. These boxes stop working after about 100 miles of use. Its been both the leading and trailing boxes so its not isolated to the leading or trailing ignition. I send the boxes back to msd and they are fixed under warranty each time. I own 3 of these boxes and one gets sent in for repair when the other 2 are being used. This is a pain.

Anybody have any idea why this is happening? or is msd just junk.

Should I switch to the digital 6 boxes?

Thanks for any help.

i have been running a 6al box for quite some time without a problem. So you have an inline fuse for the constant 12V source?

No inline fuse being used. The directions state there is a fuse in the ignition box itself so no external fuse is needed.

What inline fuse are you using?

That is true, the MSD write-up didnt say anything about it but I always install a 30amp fuse.

First wire I would check is the ignition wire. the thin red wire that works as your on and off switch. If thats a no go, read the MSD book on how to troubleshoot it. You have to ground the white wire or something. I cant remember it all.

Always install inline fuses wether they call for it or not!

And they should not crap out after 100 miles
