MSD-DIS on a 1980!!!!

I got the MSD-DIS running on my 1980. The system worked great much better ideal and throttle responce.

One thing to watch for is the MSD is not wired the conventional way to the 1980 dissy's. The timing jumps around a lot if it is. Rather wire GREEN to GREEN and PURPLE to RED.

I never cleaned all the 1980'esque boxes off the fender as i am not planning on making the switch permanent. I figure since im selling the car in the near future it will probably have a much higher resale value if the ignition system was left stock.

The entire setup is listed in the for sale section if your interested ($100)

Cheers

Mind telling us how you wired it up? 1 pickup for trailing, 1 for leading right? I was thinking about doing something similar to that, until I did some research. Somebody tested the Dis 2 firing leading and trailing, it worked for about a week before taking a crap on them. They got a new one on warrantee and the same thing happened. After talking to MSD for a while they (MSD) said that the DIS only likes evenly spaced ignition events, and non-evenly spaced triggers will cause it to fail.

Perhaps you will have better luck, but don't be suprised if it goes out on you.

Msd-dis

I wired it up using Paul Yaw's and Jeff20B' instructions only i used a two post coil insted of two stock (or MSD Blaster) coils. The only difference i had when wiring it up is to swap the polarity of the Green and purple wires on the MSD.

Do a search for more info there are a bunch of great threads on the subject. more info than you will ever need......All except how exactly to use a 80' dissy....

I never did road test it but, It idled great and reved freely all the way up to ~5000

I have taken it all off the car now and its in a box ready to ship.

Cheers, I hope this helped.
