MSD 6a, Is it worth the money?

I've tried searching but i couldn't really find any good info about this. Does it really give any noticeable increases in power? Is it a mod that is worth the money?

Its supposed to be a more reliable spark. I ordered the free catolog and checked out there web site.
This is from the brochure they sent me:

Below 3,000 RPMs the MSD's produce a series of sparks that lasts for 20 degrees of crankshaft rotation. This powerful series of sparks ensures combustion of the fuel mixture resulting in quick starts, smooth idle, and great throttle response. At higher RPM, the capacitive discharge circuits deliver full power sparks to produce great power throughout the entire RPM range of your engine.
Most people that have posted in the 2nd Gen section have been happy with the results, although a better ignition system doesn't "make" more power in the same terms as adding more air and fuel, rather it burns the air and fuel more efficiently, which in turns give better throttle response which feels more powerful.

I have it on my GSL-SE in direct fire mode. I was not impressed. Peejay loves his setup however.

I dont have one, i'm saving up for a 6al with rev limiter, but i would recommend it. You can score a 6al for under $200 bucks. Even if it doesn't improve horsepower that much it WILL improve fuel economy and you'll have a nice rev limiter. I know people who have them on a piston engine and they love it. Go for it!

yeah $200 isnt expensive for a performance mod, I think even www.jegs.com and www.summitracing.com have money back gurantees

I've heard of it, and from what I understand, its pretty much the same as the MSD. CDI is Capacitive Discharge Ignition, and the differences bewtween the Mallory and the MSD is about the same as the differences between an 84 Camaro and a 84 Firebird, from what I read. I went to www.fc3s.org which is a site for 2nd Gen cars, and they did a write-up on installing a Crane Cam HI-6 ignition. They say that the MSD system uses analog circuits, where as the Crane is digital. If you want to read their write up, go to the site above, and on the left click on How-To's, and in the menu that drops down, click on electrical, and select Crane HI-6.
