msd 6a+blaster coils=bad?

I have installed both on my '80, along with a mikuni 44- now I have a very annoying miss around 3400+ rpm. Fresh plugs. Could it be distributor? What do you think? Help!

Ok, IIRC with a points setup its the white wire that you trigger it with. But my memory isint that great LOL. How are the points and condensor? And did Mazda coils use a ballast resistor? MSD had specific instructions on how to wire their stuff up, and there was something in there about those resistors if you had them as OEM.

The '80 doesn't have points. Only the '79s did. The '80 is basically the same as the 81-85, except it used J-105s instead of J-109s and the ignitors are mounted on the fender instead of the distributor.

You need to wire it like you would the 81-85 cars. Purple and green wires, IIRC.

One thing I just remembered. I remember Jeff20B saying the VR sensor is different in the 80'. The lobes on the VR sensor setup are the other way, so I guess it triggers on a positive going signal versus a negative going one. Something like that. I used to own an '80, but never looked that cloely at the ignition system at the time. Maybe the green and purple need to be switched around in this case?

Thanks for correcting me. My memory sucks. Well if you use the igniters you still use the white wire, if you eliminate them (which is best) then you use the gn/purple. IIRC (which lately seems not to go too well) if you do that, you cant match the wires color for color or the signal will be messed up. You have to do it opposite to the wire colors.

exactly, green on msd goes to purple on dizzy and vice versa... but addict thinks there is something opposite on the vr sensor so maybe that is different on the 80? i dunno. i say try it opposite colors first and see how it works.

^^You will want to create another thread since this doesn't relate to the current question.

Go here, click the button at the top that says new thread

https://www.rx7club.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18

Also, give the search a try. There are a lot of guys that have had to deal with rust problems. I am sure you could find a bunch of info. If you still can't find what you need, then start the new thread. Good luck.
