Which mount fits the S4 TII Transmission (70mm bolt spacing)
Swapping in a S4 TII transmission and I don't want to use the original 3 piece TII mount. Hoping to find a mount similar to the FB trans mount, like in the pic below. S4 mount bolt spacing is 70mm and FB mount is 90mm. Just wondering if anyone knows of an off the shelf mount that has 70mm bolt spacing to fit the S4 TII Transmission? If not, I may just mill slots into the stock FB transmission Mount, but I would prefer to make it easier to replace down the road.
Why not do the milling to the crossmember instead?
I can't see the full bolted joints, but you should avoid bolting through the crossmember unless you found a way to keep that rectangular tube from collapsing under the fastener tension, such as internal sleeves. Another solution would be large relief holes on the underside so you're only torquing through the top surface.
You can also remove the current body mounts for the FB crossmember and weld them were needed. When I did a conversion on a 1985 chasie from auto to manual I cut the factory mounts out of my parts car and TIG welded them in. I kept the factory auto one in place and attched a crossmember to stiffen that area up.
I believe he's referring to attaching the FB transmission rubber mount to the T2 transmission. While this can be done with minimal effort, the height of the FB rubber mount will cause the crossmember to sit extremely low necessitating the need for a custom or modified crossmember.
Just go with the MTheory mount. I tried to fumble around with my own homebrew solution, only to realize that MTheory had the best solution. Scott also has some nice engine mechanics mounts you should consider as well.
