more weirdness with cooling

for some reason when i let the car sit over night after i get done driving the coolant from the overflow doesnt get sucked back in to the radiator and the water in the t-stat housing is low and it doesnt open the the t-stat. so what i do is crack the housing and the water gets high enough to open the t-stat and it works fine. im not losing any water until i crack the housing. i pour what is in hte overflow tank in to the radiator and its good to go. why is this happpening can someone pls help me pls.

thank you
charles

some thing that i forgot to add is that it depressurizes pretty quickly and im also using an overflow tank from a geo metro and it has a hose to bleed off extra coolant when it gets too full.

You may have a hole in the overflow line or the overflow tank. As the coolant cools, a vacuum is created and sucks the coolant in the overflow back into the rad. If there is a hole in the line, it cannot do it.

does it happen under WOT at half, then ya slow down to reg speed it go to half....or just regular driving, and AS ur slowing down it goes to half?

and does it happen instantly...or slowly....

Just an idea....check and see if your rad is blocked in the front i know it shouldnt make a difference... but ya neva know.

Is your thermostat working properly ????

it starts to happen while i speed up from a stop it stay low for a few seconds and then it goes up to about half way. when i got the car it didnt have any of the shrouds i ll take a pic on the fone today. once i get going the needle levels out a bit and it stays just below half way.

the t-stat is in good working order its not but a month old!

You said it didnt have the shourd, so does that mean it still doesnt have it ? do you have your oil cooler hooked up still?

the oilcooler is hooker up i dont have a fan shroud bc i have an eletric fan that is flush with the rad. i dont have a top shroud but i did make one today, i think i lost about a pint of blood cutting that damn tin with tin snips. all i got to due is take in with me to work tomorrow and have the airframe guys drill 4 holes for me to mount it. while im doing that im going to make a bottom one that i can attach to my my tow hoks that drops low enough to froce air to my oil cooler and radiator. i just got to get some 1/8 in aluminum, cut and shape it and i should be good and i ll see where that get me.

edit: i aslo got a 16lbs stant rad cap to get me by for a few days and it seems to be holding pressure better now and the tank isnt always full

heres a pic of the top radiator that i make but not finished yet. nice blood stains! i beleive out blood, sweat and tears into what you got to make you love it more!
i took it for a drive after i made this i used an old shirt that i use for a rag to hold it in place while i drove and the needle still move up and down but while driving it didnt go up as much as b4, so i think that once i make the bottom peice and change the water pump i ll be good. ( crossing fingers) i hope so that is!

Yeha...blood stains is right!! thats sick man! lol your not dizzy are ya ??? lol

fan shroud on the fan side of the rad is what ya should be trying to find......cause other wise the fan is just going to be putting air from all over, and not nessicarily through the rad......

You want to pull the airthrough as much as you want to force it.
