more power?
So, if my AC is not working (not charged I guess), I can simply remove the belt? This is the silver thing with the hoses attached to it on the fender side of the alternator, right?

Yes. Although if it's not working, and you don't plan to use it you might as well remove it and save the weight. You can probably sell the system for a few bucks as well.
Well I think I would like to keep it stock and I may want to charge it at some point in the future. But, if it wont hurt anything, Ill take the belt off since Im not using it anyway.
If I took the silver compressor out, how do the lines that come from it come off?

I just cut my hoses for it out. It was making a sad noise when I got the car. popped the hood found the culprit cut the belt. took it all out. I still have two 1 inch hoses sticking out the firewall though. Maybe I'll get them out tomorrow.
BTW I've had pretty good luck with "Freeze 12". It is an R-12 replacement. Recharged my Cosmo's 33 year old AC, my son's 84 GSL and my brother's 84 GSL. Brought them all back from blowing hot air. I started with the $60 kit. Comes with three cans a hose and an adapter.

I live in the mountains so I really dont need the ac. So I could take off the belt, compressor, and store it sealed up and be okay when/if I ever wanted to put it back on to sell the car?
