depends if you have headers or not, also it wont make extra power, it just wont lose as much power

Yeah, you'll get some more power, but it won't be much nor would it be super noticeable. I'd say removing the air pump and AC would be good for about 5hp, max.

it'll be around 30+ lbs lighter, it'll look "neater" in the bay, and it won't rob you of power because it doesn't have that extra load.

Cheapest power mod I know of. Cut (or remove) the AC belt. You'll think you got 20 hp, but probably more like 5 to the wheels if you're lucky.

So, if my AC is not working (not charged I guess), I can simply remove the belt? This is the silver thing with the hoses attached to it on the fender side of the alternator, right?

Yes. Although if it's not working, and you don't plan to use it you might as well remove it and save the weight. You can probably sell the system for a few bucks as well.

Well I think I would like to keep it stock and I may want to charge it at some point in the future. But, if it wont hurt anything, Ill take the belt off since Im not using it anyway.

If I took the silver compressor out, how do the lines that come from it come off?

I just cut my hoses for it out. It was making a sad noise when I got the car. popped the hood found the culprit cut the belt. took it all out. I still have two 1 inch hoses sticking out the firewall though. Maybe I'll get them out tomorrow.

Well I would like to have the option to put it back on at some point so I dont want to just cut it off. I guess they are not pressurized or anything are they?

Yes, the hoses and components should be under pressure and filled with Freon. If your AC has not been working for some time, disconnecting the belt will probably not make the repair worse later on. If the system is kept sealed many of the parts tend to survive. If you leave the system open to the air corrosion begins to set in.

BTW I've had pretty good luck with "Freeze 12". It is an R-12 replacement. Recharged my Cosmo's 33 year old AC, my son's 84 GSL and my brother's 84 GSL. Brought them all back from blowing hot air. I started with the $60 kit. Comes with three cans a hose and an adapter.

I live in the mountains so I really dont need the ac. So I could take off the belt, compressor, and store it sealed up and be okay when/if I ever wanted to put it back on to sell the car?
