More holley 600 problems

im having an odd problem which may be a common thing, but im not so well versed in carb's.

well, im getting no gas through my primary float, no clue why not.

with the fuel pump on, i pull the accelerator cable and watch gas come out of my secondary bowl, but nothing from the primary, on top of that my fuel psi rises until i pull the accelerator cable and dump fuel, then it goes back down.

if i pull the screw off on the side, cant remeber what its called, the one that you use to check adjustments on the side of the float. no fuel what so ever.

it comes through with the fuel line with no problem what so ever. but the minute i put the fuel line on the float, no gas.

any clue whats going on?

Sounds like a stuck float on the primary side. Screw hole is called a sight level.

well, i took the float off, looked allright, moves freely.

i held the float sideways in hand with fuel line attatched to see if fuel even got into it. and sure enough fuel pump on, fuel into the float while in ym hands, so the float is getting fuel into it, but isnt coming through to the jets, no clue how to fix it.

pump on or not, when pulling the accel cable fuel should squirt in the primarys only. that circuit may be cloged up. also, with the pump on engine off, there should be no fuel coming from any bowl unless the float isn't shutting it off.

im running a mallory 4070m wired directly to the battery, a switch to cut it on and off, thats how mines setup, as it sat i could pull the accelerator cable and only get gas from the secondary into the intake, nothing from the primary, is that what you are talking about?

check your float and springs again, then go after the jets perhaps they are clogged.

aslong as the linkage is working and the secondaries are working atleast you can narrow it down to the essential fuel delivery.

Is your 600 a dual feed/double pumper? Don't remember if some of the 600's came that way or not? If it is not a double pumper, then you are confusing your primary and secondaries.

If you are not getting fuel through the accelerator jets, or the main jets, then the bowl is not getting fuel. Either the needle and seat are stuck or the filter in the feed line is plugged.

well after looking at jets on mazdatrix's website, i had an epiphany and figured out what the jets were, where they are located and what size they are.

they are nice and clean and flow.....

so it has to be the float, ive got no clue how to unstick this needle and seat, or what it looks like.

Check your float adjustment. On my older holley there was a screw and nut on the top of the float bowl. You turn the screw and lock it down with the nut after you adjusting is done.

You want to adjust the float so that when you open the site glass you get a dribble of gas out the site hole.

Try that..see what happens. Sounds like your float could use an adjustment.

What in the world are these things called?!

the little things that shoot the fuel from the float / jets into the throttle chamber?

im not getting any fuel spraying from there, float levels are fine and adjusted propperly and the fuel pressure problem is all good now, the jets are clean and clear, but still no fuel.

If you have a double pumper, and know why it is a double pumper, then you should know your problem. A double pumper has mechanical secondaries and 2 accelerator pumps. The AP is what gives the carb that little extra squirt of gas, to richen the mixture, when you mash the gas. This prevents a lean stumble. if you are getting a squirt in the secondaries and not the primaries, and the troulbe shooting you have done so far, the primary AP is probably toast.

Work the linkage, you will see 2 levers on the side that move. There will be a square plate with 4 screws that one end of the lever presses on, that is the AP. Take the cover off, check the diaphram and look for any blockage, blow the ways out and make sure everything is clean.

By the way, there is a butt load if info on the Holleys on line. I have 4 books on them, but still haven't taken the time to fully understand them, even with buying my first one over 30 years ago.
