BC Monroe or Tokico's

Hello,

So locally I have the choice to buy Monroe Gasmatic (sp) shocks or Tokico's as an OEM replacement for the car. I am not doing anything fancy so coil-overs and etc are not the question.

Does any one have experience with either of my two options? I had the tokico's on my Supra but they were the Lumina II's not the HP's. The Monroe's I had on a truck once so I really have no point to comapare from.

What would you use and why?

I do not know if this is classified as technical or non...please move it if needed.

Thanks

Depending on your driving.

Ridden in both, so I can tell you that if you do not mind higher rebound then go with the Tokico's. They are a better strut IMO and a little higher performance than the Monroe's. Monroe's are basically stock to me.

I've used both in a Del Sol before and I think the Tokicos give better handling, in my opinion!

I have Tokico blues on my 85 GS and like them.
They are firmer than stock, but not unpleasantly so, IMHO.

Get the buy it now Tokico blues from the guys on E-bay. If you offer them a lower price they'll take it. I got front and rear Tokico HP's for $160 shipped.

That is the link to one of the Tokico auctions. Keep in mind that the ones pictured aren't exactly what you get from them. I know a lot of people get ticked off when they get their actual struts, because there aren't any perches on them. They claim that they've been ripped off and didn't get what they paid for. Remember that the first gen Rx-7 uses strut INSERTS. Tokico doesn't even make struts with a replacement housing. All they manufacture are the inserts for the OEM strut housings. Please keep this in mind when you purchase. A lot of people don't do their homework, or know anything about their car and then they are complaining afterwards.

Good luck with your install! Remember to use an impact gun on those front struts. It makes the job a lot easier. Don't do anything that might damage the shock shafts.

Thanks again,

I think that I'll get a shop to do the installation. I swapped the motor on my own and it was great but right now I am so busy at work that it is better for me to get them put in for a reasonable cost. Plus a installation warranty is good to have even if it is only good for 30 to 90 days.
