Modifying Mariah Hatch?

I was on 22cworks, and I saw this awsome hatch. I was wondering if it's a modified mariah unit, or a custom unit all together. Whichever one it is, how hard would it be to either modify a mariah to look like this, or build one. Depending on the answer I'll either be hunting for a mariah, or figuring out how the f to make one.

It might be a modified Mariah one...the obvious difference is that the Mariah hatch comes down over the rear side windows.

But someone might have cut it back and thickened it up so that it comes down to meet the top of the side window.

If you use a factory window as a template, it doesn't look like it would be too hard to make by trimming a Mariah hatch.

Maybe throw Mariah an email with a copy of the picture and see if they will make one up for you???

I actually think that it may be an original product. That white SA is the third or fourth 1st gen that I've seen with that style hatch. However, I've only seen that hatch on Japanese SA's, I've never seen one state-side or in Oz. I've also been looking around on Japanese Savannah websites for this hatch and seeing as I've yet to find anything about it, my bet is that it is probably an older, discontinued product.

Modifying a Mariah hatch may be your best bet.

Looks aerodynamically unsound, to me. Big ol vacuum pocket, like a pickup truck. Maybe you'd need a spoiler on the roof trailing edge?

Huge blind spot enhancement, too.

Looks like it has a small spoiler at the top, look at the edge and the shadow on the other side. Its hard to tell, the white obscures depth and detail on that part of the photo.

Side windows seem kind of useless?

It is an interesting mod, though... the look is nice, kind of italian-heritage. I just don't get the functionality - - one of the things I love about my 1st-gen is the excellent visibility.

The thing is, is I'm not too worried about the visibility issue, I hardly ever use the quarter windows for anything(fender mirrors). Also how hard would this be to make? Could I just take it to a shop and say "Hey, I want this hatch ploxkthxbai?" What about material? FiberGlass? FRP? I would imagine metal would be detrimental to the overall weight of the car. Alsp, does mariah do custom work? If so I might give them an email and see what they can do for me.

Dude just call them.

Thats what I did and I live in Australia!

Thats how I got my hatch for my car.

They are very friendly and extremely helpful.

The visability is excellent from the mariah hatch.

You don't lose any view from your rear view mirror, as it looks directly out the little window in the back of the hatch which is larger than your field of view from the mirror. And you can still see plenty through the slits in the hatch through the side windows.
