missfire problem/stumbling
missfire problem/stumbling
Ok first thanks to all who helped me with my timing problem ( some how it fixed it self) now with that sayed and keping in mind that the timing is where its suposted to be and i have a new set of wires, dis and cap, the car has a missfire/stumbling at adle, while reving and holding it at any RPM. could this be caused by the car sitting for 3 years (i ran the car all last summer at first it would not idle by its self but after driving it for 2 weeks it setled it self and keeped runing with the odd miss fire) dose any one think i should get the carb rebuilt and or cleaned? and what else could cause this missfire/stumbling. thanks for your time in advance

Are the plugs new?
A slight misfire/stumble at idle and at constant RPM could be a vacuum leak. Of course, if the car was sitting for a few years with gas in the tank and the carb, I'd do a carb rebuild. It's surprising how gummed up all the jets and air bleeds can get. I just did a carb that was sitting and a couple of the jets were so clogged that I couldn't get them clean with air and carb cleaner alone. Luckily I have quite a few spares. Also the needle and seats can dry out and become brittle, making float sealing problematic.
So I'd check for any vacuum leaks and probably throw a rebuild kit at the carb as well, just to ensure that everything is functioning as it should.
