Mini-Mods
Hey Guys,
Besides the obvious mods like turbo, super charge and engine swap which cost well over $500.
What's some good mini-mods to do (i.e. cams it to what on a rotary engine). I'm not looking to go all out on my little car just yet; I want to get the little things done first.
I know of;
Exhaust
Pre-Mix
Electric Fan

replace the whole intake with and aftermarket carb/intake setup (supposed to be a massive hp increase with full exhaust)
remove the rats nest
DLIDFIS
weight reduction, like the interior tar and stuff you dont need in the engine bay ie air conditioning, your air pump, cold start assist
Im replacing my battery cables right now, its probely a good idea for anyone with a 20 year old car to do so.
Thats all I can think of now. These mods arent gonna make your car into a rocket but they are fun and will keep you busy.

I have no knowledge of carbs, I would like to stick with EFI setup
remove the rats nest
I'm probbaly going to be doing this soon...

Well, I've heard this doesn't do any good towards hp increase except for like a 1-2 HP Gain (dynographs). I've got aftermarket Fireball coils so I don't really think it would burn any better since these have a higher rating than OEMs.

Well, it gets pretty cold here, I see fluid starting to disappear so it must be getting used. AC Pump I plan on replacing (right now it doesn't work), I need the AC for defrosting because as of right now, when my windows fog I'm screwed.

TB Mod... this involves removing one of the sets of butterflies in the secondary tubes of the TB, leaving only one...
Apparently better air flow up high, but it means you are more likely to bog it down at low rpm if you don't ease on the accelerator. Do a search there should be more info around here somewhere.
As said above, air pump + emissions gear, umm cheap- gut the cat and maybe swap over to a higher flowing muffler (not sure on this - better to go for full system).
You can remove the rear sway bar for better rear-end traction around corners

As for gutting the cats, I did it on my Thunderbird and it sounds good but to me on my seven it would just make it seem...well...loud(er).
I have a tendancy to jam it off the line so I don't think the TB mod would be good for me.

TB mod will mean once you get over ~3000, she will accelerate just a bit faster... the main problem is getting the air velocity up before then... Some careful foot work can smooth things out.

Your best bet for increasing power is a full exhaust system starting with a header. You can even gain significantly with a header on the stock exhaust as the stock manifold is one of the worst stock exhaust components I've ever seen.

The back of your car will stick. If you're mostly stock, take it off... Seriously you can't lose. It doesnt cost you anything and will be one of the biggest performance increases you can gain from stock..
Let us know what you think of it

I drove my car without rear sway bar for about two or three years now. When I bought it, it wasn't on. I never even thought of it, but found it a bit strange that it would stick better then my previous car (now a modified '82, about 150hp back then, against my previous car being a bone-stock 1984). Then I finally noticed it was missing the sway bar.
So if it doesn't do any good, it sure doesn't harm. I'm planning on putting a sway bar back on though, once I have a stronger front one.
