Mikuni Help Please

Just put a Mikuni 44 PHH on my 12A. Everything was going great until it was time to hook up the accelerator cable....It's seems to be way too long. Even with the adjustments you make by turning the bolts. Anyone ever experience this? Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

If i remember correctly there is supposed to be a seperate bolt on attachment for the cable. you cut the ball off and put it thru a wire stop for adjustment. rx7doctor

Mine fit fine without changing anything. I didn't cut the end of the accel cable, that wraped around the groove just fine. My electric choke even worked. I didn't cut ends just so I could retofit if needed. It can be done.

Post some pic if you can.

I don't have a seperate bolt on attachment for the cable. Would you know where I could get it Doc? Trochoid, my choke is attached fine. I never posted pics before. I will take pics in a minute.

Try rebello racing. 1-925-674-0130. If it did not have the attachment it probably was not originally used on a rotary. rx7doctor

The setup came off a rotary. I have the complete setup. The guy had it mounted to a 13B with the adaptor plate for the intake manifold. I will try to post the pics.

Ok, here is what you do. The way you set the choke cable is the same way you need to set the accel cable. Take that screw out in the 3rd pic, set your cable sheath in the mounting bracket, wrap the cable around the slot and set it to length with the screw. The end of the cable will just hang out.

Simple and easy.

That worked! I looked at that screw but I saw the eye opening for the cable end on the linkage and thought it went there. Too simple........Thanks guys!

Don't feel bad, I had to ponder the hookup for awhile myself. My main idea was to preserve the cable ends, and it does work out that way.

It runs!! I kept everything stock as far as fuel pump, just to get it running for now. Still have to set timing. It's making a whistle noise as it idles. I checked the choke by opening and closing it and the choke makes a hissing sound...like a Dellorto. So I'd say the choke works correctly. I'm not sure about the whistle noise it's making. Could it be a vacuum leak?

If you are still running the stock pump, don't count on it providing enough fuel. I had to upgrade the pump and add an fpr and fuel pressure guage. The stock pump would drop to 3 psi at wot, the mikuni likes 4-4.5.

Play with the choke, moving it in and out, it that doesn't change the whistle, start looking for vacuume leaks.

The mikunis do make a nice sucking sound though. Kinda like money being vacuumed out of your wallet.

Yeah mine sounds like a vacuum when the choke is on.
