In middle of motor swap. 80 PP, 80 fly wheel, 84 disk, 84 tranny?

well, please respond with anything.....

I have an 80 motor going into an 84......

I under stand the 80 disk wont fit the 84 trans....

So I have an 84 disk, to match the trans. And an 80 pressure plate and flywheel.......

The pressure plate wont mesh with the fly wheel with the disk in........... should I just keep on torquing it?

From what I remeber,
You need the flywheel to match the rotors, 80 rotors 80 flywheel,

Then your clutch set up needs to match the tranny..

Anyone else wanna respond?

84 PP wont fit 80 fly wheel.....

80 disk wont fit 84 tranny........

but will the 84 disk bolt in between the 80PP and 80 fly wheel?

thanks....

why would there be a 1/4" gap? do I just crank on it harder?

my old clutch was dead.... WAY dead... pivots dead.... the disk was flat as hell....... now this new disk is pretty thick, since its new......... it should bolt up though damnit

you can doit by buying a steel or aluminum flywheel with the proper couter weight in mazdatrix so you can bolt the 84 tranny on a 80http://www.mazdatrix.com/flywheel.htm

'80 used a 215mm disk and presure plate. '84 used 225mm stuff. Maybe that's why it's not working too well for you.

It's not about the tranny matching the disc, cause the tranny will bolt up no matter what disc you put in. It's also not about the disc matching up to the flywheel cause even a 225mm disc will just barely squeeze into a 215mm flywheel (machining a few hundreths would be ideal, especially on a worn flywheel). The problem lies in the pressure plate; a 225mm pp won't properly bolt to a 215mm flywheel because the 215mm fly is comparatively level to the large step the 225mm has between the bolt holes and the flywheel surface.

This doesn't really apply to you, Andrew, because you have the right pp to bolt to the 215 flywheel. But the solution for everyone wanting to use, say, an 82 flywheel with the 225mm clutch? Spacers.

The spacers would need to be machined metal rings (aluminum, steel, alloy, etc.) with dimensions 0.310'' high, 0.600'' round, with a hole in the middle 0.325'' in diameter. Longer bolts will also be necessary - get the highest grade you can. Measurements could vary slightly, but that size made from high grade stainless works perfect for me. I also have some 8.8 hardened bolts to go with it.

nimrodTT, do you have those spacer dimensions in mm? I could convert them over, but I was wondering if you had them handy? Like from an RB kit? If not, don't worry about it.

Hmm 79+80+84 rx7, 3/8" is really close to the spacer length. A friend installed a 225mm LT steel flywheel yesterday and I got to look at the spacers. Well, good luck.

Just multiply the inches by 25.4

I didn't get the numbers from a kit, I compared two assemblies and measured the difference.
