miata short shiter question

I finally got the metal spacer trimmed down and got it all installed but it seems really hard to shift i put washers between the two metal plates that sandwich the shifter so do I need to grease it up or what?

I put back the stock turbo II shifter. I had the same problem. Hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and especially to reverse gear. Short shifter feels great from 1st to 2nd after that its a labor. Thats just my opinion.

I just put in an S5 shifter into my car. Feels better than stock, but no problems.

was it a short shifter or just stock? did it just drop right in or did it require modification?

My RotaryShack short throw feels a little stiffer than stock, but doesn’t require that much more effort. It is 2" shorter in height and shortens the throw 60%... that might have something to do with it. I did use a cap of gear oil but there shifter comes pre-lubed also.

I'm gonna grease mine up tomorrow but I was sitting in my car at work and came up with this idea

I just unscrewed the top part and put my shift **** on. I like the way it looks but now I gotta do somethin with my shifter boot.

i installed a short throw shifter from mazdatrix. its awesome! i dont know what percent shorter the throws are but it feels good. not too much effort at all. the 1 to 2 shift is lightning quick.
