Megan or Maganflow mufflers?

I need to replace my fart can. Its now too loud for a streetcar. I'm running road race headers collected inot a straight pipe to muffler. I was thinking of getting a Megan(dual 3in. tips) or magnaflow(straight). Which will give me a better sound? Not too raspy like my burnt out fart can.

Thanks, Ed

Neither for an RX7. These not for rotaries. Will be tacky loud & burn up in no time.

well sorry snapshot, but i'm gonna go against you. i just got my magnaflow muffler in. it's made so friggin well. perfectly welded and thick!!!! all stainless steel and no wool packing. i've heard quite a few magnaflows on rx7's and they sound beautiful they will last. directfreak has one on his cosmo 13b 1st gen so, if your debating between the two, DONT EVEN THINK TWICE ABOUT MEGAN CRAPPING.

For ANY stock application i would reccomend the racing beat setup hands down. That is such a kickass exhaust system!!!!

The primaflow will work fine but you cant use the 2" presilencers as it will be too restricted. Use the TII or FC 2.5" presilencers instead. Dynomax and flowmaster will give you a metallic sound beginning from idle to WOT. Magnaflow have a solid tone at idle AND does not have an irritating noise metallic sound at WOT. IN case youre wondering who I am to talk **** about mufflers..... It just happended that I HAVE TRIED THEM ALL.

On the other hand, nothing will outlast the RB muffler.

Guys thanks for the post! Remember I/m not running a silencers or cats. I only considered the megan coz I thought that they were stainless packed. I agree all around best muffler is the RB unit. I had it on my other car! I just wanted an alternative. What magnaflows are guys using and wheres the best place to get them?

Thanks, Ed

I have a dual n1 set up on my car and I love the sound. Reminds me of a 70's racecar not a farter. IMO.

Racingbeat all the way, seeing as how it's made for rotary engines...the others are just fumes compared to RB. Magnaflow and Flowmaster are for offroad trucks aren't they? that's what both my friends have on their rangers and my friend w/ f-150 crew cab. i am probably wrong though. i think Magnaflow I've seen for Muscle cars too, but import cars are mostly HKS, Greddy, APEX, etc... correct me if i'm wrong.

Dynomax and flowmaster I've tried. Had to wear earplugs to drive to work & junked them for RB again. Try your Megan product but make sure they take returns. A rotary runs very loud & hot.

magnaflow is a quality built muffler, FBII, i have to agree with that. it also has a nice tone and holds up to harsh driving conditions. 2.5' is a good choice. at any rate, racing beat is the exhaust of choice. i have tried a lot of different applications and racing beat is by far the absolute beast sounding and most durable exhaust on the market for the rotary. for a cost concerning budget, magnaflow will work just fine and sound great doing it.

I too have to change my muffler soon. Does anyone know what size Magnaflow will replace the stock muffler on an 85 GSL-SE? I though the 5x8 oval single 2 1/4 " inlet to dual 2" outlets? Is that right?

Thanks.

if you have the money, i will agree. go with the RB. but for a budget, hit up magnaflow. you can get one's with tips that are polished. will need to get it welded on though.

I got a magnaflow on mine, its loud but man i think it sounds nice and throatty (if thats a word) The sound of the exhaust is deep and not tinny like a rotary usually sounds like... BTW If yours is too loud for the street, the magnaflow probally wont save you anything there... Mine is loud...

Why is it, that if a cop sees and hears a harley thats OK.. If they hear my car they start being dicks? My god some motorcycles driving by my house are 3x's as loud as my car!

I'm using a Megan Racing n1 style muffler on my car, put it on when my car was still n/a, and still using it now that it's turbo. Never had any problems, packing doesn't burn up.

I bought mine from megan back when they were selling all their stuff though ebay, got it for around $80 shipped.

For all of you running magnaflows do you have cats or silencers in place?

Thanks, Ed

No cats here. I do have a 30" cherry bomb as a presilencer though. Fuggin long thing that cherry bomb is. Its huge.

My system is stock header to 2.5" inlet/outlet cherry bomb to 3" exhaust over the axle to an 18" long magnaflow. The absolute longest you can fit behind the axle. It is REALLY deep sounding compared to what I have hear from online videos. Better sounding than a RB but mabey a little loud. But we will see once I get my exhaust leak fixed.

85 rotary power, are you using the cherry bomb glass pack, or a cherry bomb turbo muffler as a pre scilencer. Thanks.

Cherry bomb glass pack. But it will burn out in no time. I used it knowing that I will have to replace it in about a month. It was cheap, and I am doing a budget buildup here so I went with the cherry bomb. Another Cherry bomb style muffler that might work really well is the Magnaflow magnapacks. They look exactly the same as a cherry bomb but they are stainless packed, so they won't burn out like a cherry bomb. I plan on putting one of these on my car in a few months after my cherry bomb burns out with the addition of a road race header from RB.

Just so you know, the cherry bomb turbo mufflers are REALLY restrictive compared to the cherry bomb glass pack. They are not a straight through design and if you use that, it would almost be no better than a cat.
